Winger Jussi Jokinen has been placed on waivers. - TSN

Yes, if he didn't suck.

Rangers need scoring and size on the wings.

(actually anywhere would do) but.....

Jussi brings neither.

Love him in the shootout though...

He's a more offensively talented Sjostrom, meaning, we have an abundance of Jokinen's as it is.

why not pick em up, it cant hurt. We obviously need any help we can get right now in the offence. Who knows maybe he can play with Gomez.

because we need a different style player besides pretty much the same wingers we have now.

Are the Rangers looking to set some kind of NHL record with the most 3rd liners ever?

The problem w/ Jussi Jokinen is his price tag. While only under contract for this year, he makes 1.8 million.

Without a shadow of a doubt, I would swap Sjostrom for Jokinen without missing a beat. Unfortunately, the problem is two fold:

1) Jokinen isn't the top 6 sniper the team desperately needs. His 1.8 billet only makes acquiring one more difficult

2) Organizational Trust: The Rangers have to continue to exhibit goodwill towards their RFAs. While I would love to interchange parts for better players, you must do this with absolute care and tact. To negotiate good rates w/ RFAs, they must believe the team is trustworthy and wants you. Unlike NHL09, waiving players at the drop of a hat can have very negative longterm consequences. And one must be extremely careful in disrupting any locker room relationships. Removal of players can be far more troublesome unless the reward is worthy of the risk of removing a popular player.

I was thinking if he can play C then do it...........waive poor Prucha or deal him for a late pick to replace the contract

I would be ok with seeing a Korpikoski, Jokinen, Callahan 3rd line after the Rangers get a top 6 winger at the deadline

offdacrossbar 02-05-2009 08:46 AM

the lightening released him. they blow. hes another marginal player.

then again, id sign anyone if they could score a few pp goals right about now. just this guy isnt very good.

kinda pisses me off shany has 3 already for the debbies. i did laugh though lurking on the debs board, already they are complaining about shany playin on the pk. what is it with this guy and the pk. hes slow as snow, yet he always worms his way into pk minutes.

Enough of these borderline players.

Do soemthing big, dump salary(gomez, voros, redden, kalinin) get younger and at the same time aquire scoring.

I was thinking yes. He can score (55 points in his rookie season? 17, 14, 14, 16 goals in 4 seasons) but his lack of success in Tampa would indicate he needs the proper linemates to put those points up so that is definitely a risk. I don't think we can really afford a $1.8M cap hit and the fact that he's small and not so physical on a team with Prucha and Dawes makes him seem redundant. Wouldn't be so bad if we picked him up after some sort of trade that made it relevant. He is a RFA next season so his salary can go down, right? Something I think we keep in mind but not a fit at the moment.
