Pittsburgh - Montreal

:habs To Montreal:

Philippe Boucher

:pens To Pittsburgh:

3rd round pick

Considering Pittsburgh loses a few more games before the deadline, they will give up an old [D] like Boucher, in return for a draft pick. It works out for Montreal, since he's a French Canadian with one of the hardest shots from the point and plays a physical game (something we lack). Age has a big factor, and Boucher isn't getting any younger so is value has dropped a lot.

He would probably retire here in Montreal, and at 35 years old, he probably has another 2-4 years left in the tank. He was a great specialist on the Power Play along with Zubov back in Dallas.

Thoughts?

PenguinTommy 02-05-2009 01:56 PM

Deal !

Ragamuffin Gunner 02-05-2009 01:58 PM

WOW. A proposal involving the Pens by a non-Pens fan that is actually really good.

johnniewalker 02-05-2009 01:59 PM

I'd do it. We're going to need to dump 2 defensemen before the trade deadline, and this would be about the best return we could expect.

Which other [D] would you plan on dropping?

JordanStaal#1Fan 02-05-2009 02:07 PM

Where do I sign?

Sydor ---> Boucher ---> 3rd rounder

That would be good asset management.

You'd do that for us? You'd really take worthless Boucher off our hands and give us a pick? Wow, thanks a lot! I'd just love you as GM of Montreal! Can I interest you in Satan too? :sarcasm:

Gill or Eaton

Boucher doesn't have the PP assets he used to. Heck, he only really had two decent seasons offensively. That leaves his only real asset listed by the OP as being French Canadian, which is complete nonsense, and a physical game. I don't think he's got the legs anymore to be an effective physical presence. He'd probably be replacing O'Byrne or Bouillon anyway, and they're both pretty physical as well.

I pretty much don't see any value in adding Boucher at all. Much rather have the 3rd.

Cyrrus147 02-05-2009 02:34 PM

No thanks, the Habs have no use for Boucher. This guy is done in the NHL.

YMCMBeaulieu 02-05-2009 02:35 PM

It'd pretty much be like Janne Niinimaa all over again, and we all know how well he played for the Habs.

AK 02-05-2009 02:41 PM

Boucher hasn't been great for the Pens, but he's at least shown he has some life in him. Unfortunately, he just doesn't fit in here.

I'd trade him for any pick or failed prospect.

vcx* 02-05-2009 02:48 PM

Considering Gill fetched a 2nd and 5th, a 3rd seems about right. Wow a trade proposal that isn't drug/idiocy induced.

Janne was pretty brutal for a bit before that, Boucher isn't that inept.

Mike Farkas 02-05-2009 03:11 PM

I'll start packing his things...

Montreal needs speed and grit...0 for 2 for Boucher in those departments.

The Computer Says NO!

Personally, I think we'll probably be looking to package Goligoski, Letang or Whitney for whatever the best return is.

JTG 02-05-2009 03:25 PM

We will find you Ray Shero's number.

If he's better than Brisebois (is he? I'm not even sure of that anymore), then I guess if we fail at all other attempts to get a better upgrade, then taking him for a pick or fringe body might be ok. But it sounds kind of like a Plan F option at this point.

SkullSplitter 02-05-2009 04:18 PM

Regardless of where the Pens are in the standings, once Gonchar comes back, they've got 9 NHL defensemen.

emb24* 02-05-2009 04:20 PM

we already have one brisebois. montreal keeps its 3rd rounder thank you very much and good day

A 3rd rounder is a bit high for Boucher at this stage in his career, but I'd take the gamble on him for a late pick. He still has a great shot from the point.

its not very accurate anymore,To be honest a 3rd seems like an overpayment, 4/5th seems more likely or a average prospect.
