2.8.09 - Nashville @ Dallas

Just have a few minutes to put up a new GDT, so... ta-dah!

Blazini 02-08-2009 04:34 PM

Ellis is reported as the starting goalie.

braindead 02-08-2009 05:31 PM

5 pm central start and available in HD so don't get caught enjoying the sunshine and warm weather in Nashville.

Enoch 02-08-2009 06:20 PM

What a terrible 4 minute powerplay. We looked pitiful. The shorthanded goal just iced that crap-fest off.

just say no to Forwards on the Point of the Flowerplay

Had a bad feeling at the start of the PP that with an extended PP opportunity this early in the game that if we didn't score it would get the Dallas crowd into the game and really give the Stars all the momentum. Of course, what I didn't really even think of because of it's totally negative impact was to allow a SHG.

Listen to the Stars crowd at the end of the kill....

That goal was huge because we are now facing an uphill battle with one of our top-six forwards out and against a team playing really solid hockey.

Not looking good so far...

Enoch 02-08-2009 06:26 PM

I missed the start of the game. When I tuned in, the 4 minute PP had just started, and they failed to mention what happened. So...what happened?

Joe T Choker 02-08-2009 06:32 PM

2-0 Parrish ... I guess we didn't need him this offseason at all

Sully got highsticked by Modano, he returned late in the first.

Modano got his stick up and really nabbed Sullivan in the mouth or nose or something. Blood was spewed.

Major league defensive period.

Good luck the rest of the way.

Seth Lake 02-08-2009 07:00 PM

Gotta actually forget about the first period. Learn from it and go out there to win this next period. 20 minutes at a time.

Wow, Trotz just called out Ellis a little...good for him.

Joe T Choker 02-08-2009 07:24 PM

Petey Petey Petey, it looks like we have ourselves a hockey game ... great tic-tac-goal there by Arnott from Dumont & Jones

great eye-hand coordination by Jones to stab that clearing attempt by Niskanen

Seth Lake 02-08-2009 07:29 PM

Jones creates the turnover, Dumont sells the one-timer, Arnott buries the feed from Dumont.

Very pretty play. Next goal wins.

Heading to the PP...

Enoch 02-08-2009 07:37 PM

Sullivan gets a 4 minute high-sticking call after being interferred with. Its like getting a penalty for being punched and as you are falling back you trip somebody......ridiculous. No calls or an interference there. You can't just give Sully a penalty.

game over

Great game today, the score truly doesn't give your team enough credit, as this did NOT look like a 4-1 game at all.

Good luck on your playoff run.

Why does Trotz insist on screwing with the lines. YOU SCREWING WITH LINES HAS NOT WON A SINGLE GAME THIS SEASON. Philstrom is not a good match for Legwand and Erat. Period. He is too small to battle infront of the net. Hopefully this was a learning experience for Trotz to leave the damn team alone. Ellis, blah, any other goalie in the league would have fell back after not hearing an immediate whistle. P.S. Great job dumping over the glass. I'm not mad cause of the loss. Trotz mostly. If you wanna ****** with the lines why put the single worst point scoring player on the team (other than sultzer and santorelli who have 8games combined) in the top six. I'd way rather see Hornquist up there. Ward on PP, Great job again Trotzy. Is there anyone on the staff that gives Trotz stats on the players? It seems too me he's way too stuborn when it comes to some players. Maybe he's banking on the old "He's averaging .15 points a game, He must be dew for a point by now" philosophy. Quit playing craps with the team and play the players that get points. I'm done.

worstfaceoffmanever 02-08-2009 09:14 PM

Sullivan was injured for a whole period and then took a double-minor in the third that threw the lines way off and they stayed that way for the rest of the game.

I'm done.

Well the Tennessean was hinting that it had to do with his defensive play:

Quote:

Dropped down again: For the second game in a row, rookie forward Ryan Jones began the game on the team's second line and finished on the fourth. Predators Coach Barry Trotz flipped Jones and Antti Pihlstrom as linemates of David Legwand and Martin Erat. Jones' turnover in the neutral zone led to Dallas' second goal, but he did rebound by picking up an assist on Nashville's lone goal.
And from the looks of it, Trotzy is dropping the 'shutout' rule:
Quote:

Shutout rule shift: Over the past several seasons, Trotz has employed a shutout rule for his goalies: If a keeper earned a shutout, he's been all but certain of starting the next game.

But Trotz says he decided over the all-star break the rule wouldn't necessarily apply any more.

"I make the rules and I can change them, so there's no rule anymore,'' he said.

Ellis did start Sunday, after picking up a shutout win Friday against Minnesota.
Oh well Ellis has played better. The second goal really hurt and the attempted clear pretty much done us in. Our special teams are not special. Well we can penalty kill but that's probably because we have a roster full of penalty killers, with not much skill :p:

Just put it behind us and hope we fare better against Detroit.

Soundgarden 02-09-2009 09:38 AM

well it least it wasn't 10-2.:)

darth5 02-09-2009 01:56 PM

I, for one, would think Trotz would learn not to call out players by name on the broadcast or in the press. His obvious preference for Rinne (however justified and however much I agree with it) has to wrankle Ellis.

I also think he has to give some more trust to Jones. I think his lineup juggling with VK and KK cost us a few games earlier this year before Kevin was allowed to settle in and get some rhythym.

Seriously, it takes a pretty terrible coach to shatter the confidence of a goalie as good as Danny Ellis.

It's time to go get Scotty Bowman from the Blackhawks! :sarcasm:

I'm hoping Ellis gets traded so he can be in a better situation. He deserves better than what he's got here.

Its his own fault that he's been consistently below average this season

darth5 02-09-2009 03:25 PM

Dave, I don't question that Rinne is the better goalie at all. Results speak for themselves.

I do think it contributes to a bad locker room if the coach says things in public that should be said in private. We all know Trotz has this habit.
