need new pants. any suggestions???

its been a while since i bought any new pants. mine are nikebauer vapor XX and have been pretty good. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a decent pant that opens up a bit more in the leg. that is my only complaint with the XX's the leg is tapered and i have never liked it. suggestions???

I like RBK 5K pants for a mid-range pant.

I got the RBK 6K, they are excellent the bads are adjustable, not sewn into the outer shell. the only shortcoming is if you want to look cool like alex ovechkin with a skate lace for the front tie, your outta luck there is a tie on them. seriously, they are a good pair of shorts. pants, breezers, whatever.

The Supreme series is basically the same design as the Vapors but without the taper.

What size are you? Because if you fit a pair of these, It's about the best deal ever.

Tackla's pro pant. I have a pair and love them.

you should just go and try on a bunch of different pants, its really the best way to find the perfect fit and pant.

I always liked Tackla's but your best bet is to try a bunch on because each pair fit differently.

Most Mission gear is being cleared out because they're being absorbed by Bauer. Their top of the line pants are awfully good, and most I've used had zippers and are pretty straight-legged.

I have the RBK 5k pants. I really like the 7K (i think it was) but it had these awful floating thigh pads that were attached by a flimsy velcro strap. Could barely get them on, I could never imagine skating in them. Love the 5Ks though. Plenty of room, breathe really well, and they have a two belt system so them never fall down.

Mission and RBK aren't anything like the NBH Vapor pants. Tackla is bulkier in the uppers but have the split thigh. The only thing from CCM/RBK that would work is the limited edition RBK(Jofa) 7000 pro pant(dont confuse that with the 520 pant), which is bulkier in the uppers. The Tacklas and 7000 are also tapered in the legs so... yeah.

i use mission and i like em.

After I switched to girdle and shell (CCM, will consider Takla girdle for replacement) I'm done with pants.

The RBK 5K or 6K is a great midrange pant. The difference between those and the 9K is so insignificant it isnt even worth it.

+1 on the RBK 5k, sick pants

iceman_88888888 02-23-2009 04:00 AM

i'll vouch for the rbk 7k. they're a nice pant. very light, not all that pricey, adjustable thigh padding. there is a little bit of concern tho... there are spaces where there is a visible lack of padding and i caught a puck there when i tried to block a pass. i'll tell ya, it hurt!

anyways, tackla's are also a good way to go. probably the lightest pant you'll find on the market if you go to the higher end stuff.

Question on pants. Girdles + Shell provide the most mobility? In a beer-league, don't need much protection.

pnewsom 02-23-2009 07:46 AM

Bought a pair of Vapor40 pants awhile back, and liked them so much that I got the 40 shoulder pads later on. Both are very light, comfortable and offer good protection. A little more expensive, but I think I'm worth it.;)

Don't you get tripped? Pants and elbow pads is the only protection you really need in beer league, but while elbow pads could be any, you should better have a good padding on your pants. CCM PRO girdle has it.

Graf pants are straight leged and wide. I have the G700 model. They dry quickly. They have a zipper too but I dont find the need to open them up. Pants are a big on me now for whats its worth, they barely stay up. I have a 36" waist and the pants are size 54.

girdles and shell provides the best protection... typically. just don't make the mistake of buying a roller hockey girdle and using it for ice hockey (a friend of mine will vouch for that after taking a slapshot and was out for 2 months with a bruise the size of a melon).

if you want mobility, the best pair of pants to get are the tacklas. even their low end pant is quite light and extremely flexible with enough protection to get you through your beer league unscathed. the rbk 3k pants are also quite flexible and light so check them out.
