Phoenix's 2009 First Round Pick

Our pick is likely to be between fifth and tenth, overall. I'm looking for a high-end NHL defenseman. Remember, we are talking about Phoenix, so he has to be relatively cheap, and can't be over the hill.

...no thanks.

Now that's out of the way.

Snip Genos 02-18-2009 02:20 PM

Kaberle?

Porn* 02-18-2009 02:21 PM

I'd love to make a deal surrounding kaberle + poni for 1st + prospect + 2nd

something like that...

Toronto's listening.

Burke will likely be looking for a 1st rounder, 2nd rounder, blue chip prospect for Kabs.

Poni could probably be had for a 2nd and 3rd rounder or a 2nd plus a mid level prospect.

No interest in Poni. No interest in giving up prospects. I want to keep our shorter term future assets. Our young roster players and prospects that have a couple of years of development in our system are pretty much off the table.

Chris Campoli and a 3rd or 4th round pick?

Cheap contract, up and coming, good offensively and solid defensively.

You are confused. We're talking about a top ten, possibly top five pick, here.

Really rt, what did you expect? You set yourself up with this one.

It's okay. I'm just hoping for a decent ratio. 1/15 . One intelligent, thought provoking idea for every fifteen window licking, booger eating, thirteen year old, WWF fan weighing in on the subject.

Yes, if you acquire a stud d-man or impact player with that first, your team gets better. In the west, only 9 points separate 5th from 15th. Your pick can easily fall to 15th - 20th slot depending on the return...

Kaberle for the pick straight up.

I should've mentioned that I was looking for draft day offers. My apologies.

untouchable21 02-18-2009 02:34 PM

I can see DM entertaining offers, but in the end Phoenix keeps their pick!!! Nothing out there that can turn them around this quickly for this season. If anything they trade their 2010 pick this summer when no one knows exactly where that pick may be slotted.

I'm a believer that the move to improve shoulda been made when they were playing well and in good position to challenge for 4th in the conference rather than a last gasp effort to get them to even qualify. Probably end up being too little too late.

I'm no expert and perhaps my reasoning is wrong, but that's my opinion. The opinion of a fan that has been through all of this since the days of the JETS.

I know the team is in serious financial trouble and that will prevent them from signing a huge impact free agent, but the defenseman they should target if there were a way to move Jovo is Bouwmeester. He is this year's Brian Campbell on the open market.

Haha interesting. Well Kaberle I'm sure could be had for that first round pick (6-12) and Tikhonov, (although hes played well for you if im not mistaken). The value is there, you get your defenseman and hes had for a relatively good contract. Wouldn't happen until draft day though because I do not think Phoenix was part of Kabs ten destinations he'd waive his NTC to.

Oggdogg17 02-18-2009 02:36 PM

I think that Burke and Maloney would make good trading partners. Cant see the Yotes wanting to give up anything of their very bright future.

However, with the economic situation, I wouldnt be suprised if the Yotes overpay for an elite defenceman in Kabby or take a chance on a guy like Gaborik. The Yotes need to make the playoffs this year.

Viqsi 02-18-2009 02:37 PM

I wonder if Gilbert would qualify. Russell certainly would, but we aren't trading him.

FuzzyTitus 02-18-2009 02:37 PM

I thought Phoenix wants to move salary, so I would think you would trade Jokinen or someone else for picks.

There are better options (resign Morris, free agency) than trading what will become a lottery pick. RE: draft year 2003.

The word is that we can't offer any multi-year, multi-million dollar deals. Morris won't sign a one year contract, and neither will any suitable free agent replacement.

No they don't unless the return makes them better by no later than next year.

I guess you don't know who Chris Campoli is. Trust me. He's worth a 10 - 15th range 1st round pick. Especially on a team that needs help on the blueline.

Mr Shanahan 02-18-2009 02:55 PM

Kaberle for 1st + 2nd + Lisin?

Politely but emphatically decline.

I really hope (well not really) that the Leafs do get that kind of return for Kaberle. It won't be from Phoenix.

Okaaay, then. :snide:

BTW, who is talking about tenth to fifteenth? No way we end up any higher than ninth. We're currently in the six hole. Above Ottawa, who's heating up after the coaching change. So even if we climb out of our slump, we're still likely looking at sixth, seventh, or eighth by the time the draft rolls around.
