Where's your hockey league money going to?

If you're in Michigan, you might want to check the jewelry box of your league's accountant.

"A Michigan hockey mom has been charged with embezzling nearly $1 million from the local youth hockey organization."

I know we're in hard times, but come on people!

I don't condone this type of behavior, but you have to wonder how and why the organization has so much cash floating around. Short of going out and buying a rink with cash, why is there so much cash on the books?

That's ridiculous.

On a side note, the minor hockey league I'm un (Juvie division, 18-21) is losing $550 per game as of last week. We couldn't get enough registrants to cover the cost of ice for the year =\

$550/game? WTF?

I don't know the organizational costs of a league, but ice time costs at most $200/hr here. How could you be losing so much?

Insurance maybe? I'm not sure if the league needs there own insurance or uses the rinks but that could be a possibility.

With how sue happy these parents are today Im sure their attorney fees and insurance is sky high.

You think someone would have noticed it before it got to a million though.
