Alfredsson Has a Broken Jaw

Just heard on the 20-20 sports update that Alfie has a broken jaw and is listed as day-to-day....This cant be good....I'm not a doctor but I would think a jaw is not a good spot to suffer a fracture....

moz 02-19-2009 06:52 AM

Not good news, wasn't Vanek's injury a fractured jaw as well? And he's out for weeks.

Hopefully it's something he can play through with a cage.

Alfredsson11 02-19-2009 06:55 AM

Yeah, im thinking that it is only a hair line fracture or something, because he didnt seem like he was in a whole lot of pain when he returned from the Col game, hopefully it is something that he can play through, and knowing Alfie's past injury problems, he probably wont miss much games, at least we hope

RoCkMaN 02-19-2009 07:13 AM

Broken Jaw? Bah! Alfie shouldn't be out more than 5 minutes. His pain tolerance seems to be very high.

HSF 02-19-2009 07:14 AM

OMG you this team cant catch a ****ing break (no pun intended)

i guess they made their own bed and now they have sleep in it

I heard it too. We'll see how the team responds with their captain out of the lineup.

Kanataboy68 02-19-2009 07:33 AM

Vanek was initially out for 4 weeks.

What is our record with Alfie out of the lineup?

The difference being that Alfredsson is superman and returns from injury too soon.

Just for you...

Going back through 06-07 the sens are 4-12-1 without Alfie in the line up (0-1 this season). Many of those losses (7) came last year when the team was struggling as a whole so take it for what it's worth.

Fyodor* 02-19-2009 07:58 AM

I don't like it when alfie gets injured. :(

udonnoodles 02-19-2009 07:59 AM

Hopefully he's not out for too long. Our record with him out is horrendous.

LGSens 02-19-2009 08:04 AM

Best thing that could happen for this team longterm.

HSF 02-19-2009 08:05 AM

i think we won a game this year without Alfie?

anyways those records LIE after seeing Redden's record when he isnt in the lineup :p

Northern Neighbour 02-19-2009 08:05 AM

He's probably out at least a week if not longer. He plays with the injury, he runs the risk of injuring himself more severely should he get hit with a shoulder square in the jaw.

The team's playoff chances are quite slim. Better to let Alfie heel completely than run the risk of him suffering a more severe injury.

I would think that a broken jaw and a concussion would be comparable injuries. It's a head trauma and movement, hits and any exertion likely causes a lot of pain, dizzyness and other factors.

Plus, it has to be hard to breathe normally in a cage when your jaw is immobile.

Before I assume something you didn't mean to insinuate. What exactly do you mean?

ya then it takes him like a month to get back into form....

i rather have him sit back, then try to come back and be useless on the ice then get injured again. Especially when we have him signed for 5 years... we need him healed fully before he comes back this time

LGSens 02-19-2009 08:11 AM

This team needs to restock with draft picks, high ones. This team going on a run puts them closer to the playoffs. So if they are near at the deadline they become buyers, not sellers. This puts us back in the same spot, much like the Leafs for all those years. Not good enough to go far, but too far away from getting high draft picks/prospects from selling. Longterm this franchise needs to restock.

Having Alfie out of the lineup puts us at a disadvantage. Which isn't a bad thing longterm.

The Fuhr 02-19-2009 08:27 AM

Now it's time for Spezza and Heatley to carry the team.

If they can't, deal one in the summer.

In short I disagree. It's NEVER a good thing to have your best player and captain out of the lineup. Winning and building confidence will set this team up better going forward than getting a slightly better draft pick that may or may not pan out. I'm not advocating trading picks and prospects for rentals on a longshot playoff spot, I think most would agree that Murray went that rout it would be a mistake. Injuries are NEVER a good thing.

Volt 02-19-2009 08:37 AM

**** this is going to take a hit on the teams confidence :( Hopefully Alfie heals sooner than later but at the rate he heals im sure he will be back soon. Spezza and Heater need to step up now.
