strange hockey stick question (the blade)
i've noticed that some stick blades are completely smooth where there is just the clear coat that goes over top of the carbon fibers. i've also seen stick blades that are bubbled. i don't mean an air bubble under the coating but tiny bubbles covering the blade.

does anybody know why some blades are like this??? i've had this on my old sakic synergy from back in 2001 but then they went to being a nice smooth blade. but since i started getting some pro-stock sticks, they are bubbled again. does this provide some kind of performance enhancement or detriment?

Not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but i think i know what youre asking about. The bumpy/bubbly texture thats on the blade of the stick?

Supposedly it gives you better control and feel of the puck. My one90 has it, Nike calls it re-akt technology on their sticks and i can't really tell if it makes that big of a difference, if any.

I'm assuming it must, since they most likely test this sort of stuff extensively when coming up with new ways to improve their products and the sticks themselves are relatively expensive too. So i'd be surprised if it was just some sort of cheap gimmick.

It would work to give you more feel and spin, but most of the benefit would be lost when you taped the blade I would think.

thanks guys. that answers my question. i'm just wondering how it would actually help with feel but it does put more spin on my shots as compared to my other sticks without the bumpy texture... even with sticks with bigger curves on it. as for feel, i don't think it helps too much with it but that could just be me.

He's talking about ztac. It was a coating on the blade, similar to sandpaper but different(obviously). It's kind of like textured, non-skid paint. It was pretty popular and remains pretty popular at the pro level. It was an Easton deal but even Reebok/CCM are offering it at the pro level.
