Tor - Nyr

Gomez
2009 1st

for

Antropov
Ponikarovsky

Leafs can afford it, gomez could be good here, and the leafs take the first.

Done from the leafs POV. I like pony...but Gomez would be great. Toronto has the cap space...though I'm not sure 5 years down the road or so when Gomez's contract is up. Its basically money and cap space (stupid signing) for a 1st round pick

The King 1 02-24-2009 10:09 PM

Gomez in for Moore? :dunno:

In The Flesh 02-24-2009 10:11 PM

throw in Voros and give us Mayers and I'd probably do it

AK 02-24-2009 10:11 PM

The Rangers can certainly get rid of Gomez without unloading their first with it.

Pitt21 02-24-2009 10:11 PM

Gomez makes way to much money. Ya he would be a good player for the leafs, but he doesn't fit with the rebuild mentality. The leafs would be better off trading poni and antropov for picks and prospects.

This. Why do the Rangers do this? Does it makes us any better? What does Antropov and Ponikarovsky bring that it merits Gomez AND a First?

The King 1 02-24-2009 10:13 PM

NYR have a mid 1st? Hmmm...What player might that be at the draft?

Exactly. There is simply no need for this and the OP is foolish for suggesting as such.

I agree, I don't think the trade works for either team, value wise the leafs get a good deal, its just not a good fit

Cap space

brevard* 02-24-2009 10:18 PM

Exactly why would the Rangers have to add a 1st?

Kinda redundant when Slats will fill it again by 12:01 on July 1st.

In all seriousness, the Rangers don't have to make this deal at all. I don't think it's going to be easy for them to find a taker for Gomez heading into possible cap-aggedon, but they're not in enough trouble to warrant dropping their first.

Nikita Filatov* 02-24-2009 10:21 PM

It's not as bad as most are making it out to be. No one is taking Gomez without some kind of "kicker". The 1st may be a bit much, but not out of question.

Antropov for the 1st is about equal.
Poni for Gomez is almost equal when considering contracts.

Moses Doughty 02-24-2009 10:22 PM

Why does Tor want Gomez in a rebuild?

kyle evs48 02-24-2009 10:23 PM

i think the Rags say suck it unless they can keep their first.

grabo84 02-24-2009 10:25 PM

Horrible, horrible deal for Toronto. I wouldn't take Gomez off waivers for free, and I'll take my chances dealing Antropov and Poni separately.

really to who? unless you mean they can add their top prospects instead

chef283 02-24-2009 10:41 PM

Why do the Leafs want to take on $29 million in salary over the next four years especially if rebuilding? For them to take Gomez from the Rangers, there has to be something to sweeten the pot.

um ok..why is hollweg on this line-up first of all..we can have two scrappers in may and mayers but hollweg will just cause penalty problems..

and where is moore, williams, and bell..i would consider them having more of an impact then hollweg 8-)

i dont think burke would want a team that lacks in size that much
and leafs dont need other teams bad contracts, they got their own

IBLeaf* 02-25-2009 12:15 AM

The Rangers can say "suck it" all you want but we wouldn't take Gomez for free.

NYR Sting 02-25-2009 12:23 AM

STOP MAKING PROPOSALS WHERE THE RANGERS INCLUDE A FIRST ROUND PICK! IT ISN'T HAPPENING!

We are desperate for high-end talent in our prospect pool, we are not trading away first round picks, and hopefully not second round picks either.
