Should be the same channel. Last I checked, WPIX is 11 throughout the state.

NYRFAN218 02-26-2009 02:32 PM

Yeah, CW 11 is Pix 11 so you should be able to get the game.

ibleedblueblood89 02-26-2009 02:39 PM

alright guys thanks a lot!

McRanger 02-26-2009 02:39 PM

Channel 11 used to be "WPIX" way back in the day, before it became "the WB" and eventually "CW11". I guess its back to PIX.

Maybe they will bring back the game where you shoot aliens by screaming "PIX!" into the phone.

WhipNash27 02-26-2009 03:07 PM

It was changed back from CW to WPIX a few months ago.

"We really think that the station has a very rich history," said station president and general manager Betty Ellen Berlamino.

Management started to think about the move during the recent celebration of Ch. 11's 60th anniversary, said Berlamino.

"The words WPIX and PIX just have a very positive meaning and a very good place in people's hearts here in New York.

"WPIX is part of New York, WPIX is New York," Berlamino added. "Along the way we may have kind of forgotten that."

back in the day WPIX was the king of saturday and sunday afternoon movies.... i spent many a day watching such gems as "men at work", "Repo Man" and countless other movies on there. I will never forget the horrible dubs they used to cover up curses. My favorite was in place of MF... they said Melon Farmer. That still makes me laugh to this day.

Fletch 02-26-2009 03:26 PM

Was about to same the same thing, McRanger...I remember it well - kids on the phone saying "Pix". It was great.

Wow! That is an awesome old school reference.

Quoted for truth, many ridiculously hot summer days that i didnt spend at robert moses were spent in my basement watching WPIX.

The kids would YELL "Pix pix pix pix" and the thing would shoot like once

They also used to broadcast alot of Yankee games in the 80's. I'm glad to see they're testing out the broadcast of the rangers and knicks on WPIX.

Fletch 02-26-2009 05:11 PM

WPIX was the best back in the day...reruns of the Odd Couple (on at 11PM, for the most part I believe), the Honeymooners (on around 11:30PM, for the most part), etc. It was weird hearing that there's going to be a Rangers game on it and I'm not sure I totally understand the angle. MSG must be making money on it somehow and WPIX is trying to survive.

I went to college in upstate, where you at?

I don't think this game will be carried on Centre Ice, which means out of region Rangers fans might get screwed out of a game!

ManicSubsidal15 02-26-2009 05:21 PM

Oh boy do I remember waking up to watch Kids WB haha once it went from WB to CW it just got worse

Ithaca College, how about yourself, dude?

EventHorizon 02-26-2009 08:54 PM

I don't know if I can watch any sport on channel 11 without Phil Rizzuto in the booth.

I go to Cornell. Last time the Rangers played on CW11 it wasn't aired in Ithaca..only regionally to the NYC area. :shakehead

The game is being produced by MSG, so I'm sure they get something. It's a good idea because the Knicks will be on MSG, so there's no need for MSG2 plus you create a little exposure for the people who still don't have cable.

Also, I think the Honeymooners are still on Sunday nights/Monday mornings around 1 AM. Just classic comedy and I always enjoy the marathon on New Years Day.

I left NY about 2 years ago and didn't know about the change. My wife and I both thought Sam had a "Senior Moment" when he said the game was on PIX.
