Wellwood to the Pens

Guy is top 10 in the league in shooting %. Could probably be had for a 3rd round pick or so. Pens need someone to bury open net chances.

Would it work?

Ragamuffin Gunner 02-27-2009 01:56 PM

Pens don't need more bottom 6 guys.

Where do the Nucks sign?

Pittsburgh needs someone to play on their top line with Crosby who is a goal scorer. Despite the fact that Wellwood has a good shooting percentage, he is far from a sniper and passes much much more than he shoots

A proven goal scorer would cost way more than the Pens would offer.

This guy definitely has a good shot even if he has other issues with his game. If coached properly it could well turn out to be a steal.

I'm not say he's an ideal solutions. It's just something that could be considered since they're not exactly burying their chances.

Same amount of goals as Kunitz... considerably cheaper stock.

He can head for Jordon Staal :sarcasm:. In all seriousness, 7th round pick should suffice.

Mike Farkas 02-27-2009 02:07 PM

Is he is still lackadasical and out of shape?

London Knights 02-27-2009 02:08 PM

Yes. Most of his points came at the start of the year. He's a non-factor and is right back on track to playing himself out of the NHL.

mcphllp 02-27-2009 02:10 PM

you do not want wellwood

mcphllp 02-27-2009 02:11 PM

he has 2 pims in his last 160+ games, hes soft and useless

kmad 02-27-2009 02:12 PM

7th round pick.

Mike Farkas 02-27-2009 02:12 PM

That's what I figured...Pens say no thanks...if you want to waive him, I'm sure we'd love to watch him go down to the minors though...

Stealthmode16 02-27-2009 02:12 PM

Out of shape no, lackadasical yes. Not worth anything more than a really late round pick. I like him on the canucks "new third line" with ability to win faceoffs and pass the puck and a good option in the shootouts but he's really not worth anything. He's got a ton of negatives and pretty few positives.

Jag68Sid87 02-27-2009 02:14 PM

Miro Satan for Wellwood. Done.

y2kcanucks 02-27-2009 02:14 PM

Wellwood for Goligoski? :naughty:

jabberhockey 02-27-2009 02:18 PM

Wellwood doesn't have a hard shot by any means, but he's accurate when he's in close to the goaltender. The biggest reason for Wellwood's high shooting percentage is his lack of shooting. He has only taken 67 shots this year despite playing a regular shift and logging significant powerplay time. In contrast, most of the other players in the NHL's top ten for shooting percentage have taken around 120+ shots. It wouldn't take much for Pittsburgh to acquire him. A 4th round draft pick would probably suffice. Anything less than that and I'm not sure the Canucks would be interested in moving him.

Wellwood is top 1 in body fat %.

No tanks.

CrosbyCrosby* 02-27-2009 02:36 PM

wellwood fat jokes are getting old, especially since he's not fat anymore. He's still useless though.

4rde 02-27-2009 02:39 PM

Lazy, soft, inconsistent goalscorer who passes too much and not playing with passion. Combine these and you have Kyle Wellwood.

I hate this guy, Pens pass.

Getting old to who?

Making fun of tubs is still really funny to me and he's a sausage mcmuffin away from a chubby relapse.

Pretty much.

Wellwood hasn't scored a goal since January 4th. That's pretty hard to accomplish considering that he's getting time on the first PP unit with the Sedin twins.

I love analysis of players when you obviously haven't watched them. Wellwood has a terrible shot, its mostly due to his ridiculously short stick he uses to pull off his moves. The reason his shooting % is so high is because he had a very lucky start, all the bounces were going in, and I bet he isn't averaging very many shots since the streak ended either.

Thank you! Wellfed has one of the softest shots I've seen in a pro hockey player. That ridiculous save Kipper made on him last week, while a nice save, would have been a goal had Wellfed put ANY of his weight into that shot :sarcasm:
