Nycholat on waivers - claimed by Calgary

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2009/...avery_waivers/

Also going on waivers Monday were: Tom Preissing (L.A.); Joe Callahan (NYI); Lawrence Nycholat (Vancouver); Steven Goertzen (Phoenix) and Bill Thomas (Pittsburgh).

JonnyCash 03-02-2009 01:41 PM

Yeah I saw that in the injury thread..

On re-entry waivers Preissing would be a good deal..

David Booth Fan 03-02-2009 01:53 PM

I wonder if Avery makes it to the Rangers... how will he work with Torts :P

dutchcrunch14 03-02-2009 01:54 PM

why waivers? why not throw him in a trade if it comes up?

If he clears waivers then you'll have your answer.

I assume it is because there is a very high chance that he will clear waivers.. and he wouldn't be worth much in a trade (maybe a ryan shannon?) but he would be very valuable to the moose..

If he clears waivers he can be re-called after the deadline when the rosters are expanded. Here's hoping that Gillis can find an improvement in the puck moving department and he wont be needed.

Yeah, I mentioned it in the Injury thread, but the good thing about waiving him today is that teams need to have the roster spot available in order to claim him and keep him up with the big club. If they waited until tomorrow teams could claim him and keep him up regardless because the 23 player limit on the active roster is eliminated as of trade deadline day. This way they can send him down, he can stay in game shape and Manitoba gets an elite puck moving defenseman at the AHL level to help them go for the Calder Cup assuming the Canucks don't get ravaged by injuries.

don't need him

Pretty smart move by Gillis to send him through today knowing at least Avery was going through today and now we know a whole bunch of other players. Not saying Nycholat is anything special but this just increases the chances he'll pass through and who knows we may need him later on incase of injuries or something. Smart asset management by Gillis.

Johnny Canucker 03-02-2009 02:07 PM

if Preising is on waivers, then he will get picked up before Nycholat.

the moose just continue to get better and better!

Yes. He's a *VERY* good AHLer & exactly the type of defenseman the Moose need. Plus it'll let the Moose send down a defenseman to Victoria who are also in need of "D".

come on! ... what is this? 'puck moving department', it sounds like a mental institution department who's moving the puck around for no reason ...

move or pass or shoot or clean the puck up the ice ... but when its up there try to put it in behind the opposite player who's wearing a full frontal helmet, that's the key move:pickle:

Peter Griffin 03-03-2009 11:16 AM

Nycholat was claimed by Calgary. Ah well.

Zorbane 03-03-2009 11:17 AM

I guess they liked what they saw?

"Wow this guy can pass the puck really well to us"

Danrik 03-03-2009 11:23 AM

Hurts the moose a little but we still have 8 healthy D right now.

Moore Money 03-03-2009 11:25 AM

bandaid for the giordano injury I assume.

kmad 03-03-2009 11:26 AM

I want to see him on a pairing with Phaneuf.

This will come back to haunt us :sarcasm:

Vector 03-03-2009 11:51 AM

No big deal. I would have liked him for some offensive defensive depth in the playoff. Maybe they should bring in Ric Jackman.

NFITO 03-03-2009 11:56 AM

merging threads... no need to have 2 threads on Nycholat!
