Martin St Louis's name connected to Rangers

Quote:

Suddenly, it appears that Marty St. Louis, rather than Vinny Lecavalier, may be the Tampa Bay Lightning star that could be on the move.

Multiple teams are calling Lightning GM Brian Lawton about St. Louis' availability even though the veteran forward has a no-trade clause in his contract. One of the most interested clubs may be the New York Rangers, particularly since St. Louis' former coach, John Tortorella, is now behind the New York bench.
St. Louis would become the No. 1 forward available before Wednesday's NHL trade deadline if the Lightning were to ask him to waive his no-trade status. Not only is he still an elite and productive forward, the 33-year-old has Stanley Cup championship experience and will be heading into the final two years of a contract next season that will pay him a very affordable $4 million in salary.

By comparison, winger Ryan Malone is another Tampa player who may be available, but he has four years left on a deal that pays him $4.25 million per season.

Other teams are calling, but the offensively challenged Blueshirts might be the team that would benefit most by St. Louis' talents. New York has significant assets in prospects, including Brampton winger Evgeny Grachev.

Hmm...

Would love to see Gomez playing with St. Louis.

However not at a price that includes Grachev.

peanutbuttacallytime 03-02-2009 07:58 PM

interesting...can we afford a 4 million cap hit though?

GAGLine 03-02-2009 07:59 PM

No thanks, and especially not for Grachev.

levski87 03-02-2009 07:59 PM

He would fill a great void, but yet another undersized winger. This sounds like an (e5) type article.

What would we need to do to clear up space?

NYR - Martin St. Louis

TAMPA - Gomez, Sanguinetti, Prucha

WhipNash27 03-02-2009 07:59 PM

Please no. Grachev is gonna be a stud, it would KILL the future of this team if they trade him.

Cynical TyranT 03-02-2009 07:59 PM

If Grachev goes the other way Im losing my damn mind.

FromDubiToZherdev* 03-02-2009 07:59 PM

He's almost 30. No way. Grachev? Pshyeaaaa right.

I wouldnt do Grachev alone, nevermind adding Sangs and Pruch to that.

Do you pay attention to the prospects? Its not like Marty's on the up and up... he's good now, but he's getting older. I do NOT even consider this move.

ThirdEye 03-02-2009 08:01 PM

This was mentioned by Bob McKenzie on NHL live earlier today. I would love him on the Rangers, but oh god... the price is going to be extremely steep. I think Tortorella will insist that Sather pay up but I doubt he will

He put Gomez, not Grachev ;)

Please no Grachev!!!!!

Del Zotto
Stepan
Roszival

MaximusT 03-02-2009 08:04 PM

while it sounds great, no way should we give up Grachev.

Anthony Mauro 03-02-2009 08:04 PM

Grachev?! **** that

I barely entertain Gomez and Sanguinetti

OverTheCap 03-02-2009 08:05 PM

I like St. Louis but not at the expense of Grachev. He's getting up there in age and is tiny, we certainly don't need another small forward. However, $4 million is pretty inexpensive for a player like St. Louis, especially when you consider that washed-up Tkachuk makes the same amount.

If Grachev's name comes up, hang up the phone Sather.

Give them Sangs instead of Del Zotto, and it sounds like a plan...

I think that trade clears up too much cap. Tampa is one of those poor clubs.

Gomez is not going anywhere! That would completely negate the whole St. Louis trade... it doesn't make any sense.

FutureGM97 03-02-2009 08:06 PM

No way in hell this is happening. St Louis has said he won't waive his NTC...he loves TB. If St. Louis is involved then it better not be for Grachev.

Burlington Bomb 26 03-02-2009 08:07 PM

If Sather trade the Battleship I'll kill him!

Fair enough. Been a long day, and I saw Grachev, so, must've been subconscious... heh. Regardless, no flippin Grachev, lol

HAPPY HOUR 03-02-2009 08:09 PM

Henrik would be glad to land Marty.

I'm sure he was getting tired of St.Louis putting that backhander top shelf on him.
