Ohlund has a NTC, but if he waives it the Nucks could get a good return.

Hercules Rockefeller 03-04-2009 07:45 AM

Why would Vancouver trade him?

Captain Saku 03-04-2009 07:46 AM

boston going after everyone?

tylerbear* 03-04-2009 07:46 AM

They'd get a good return, but why would Vancouver trade him before the playoffs?

Lots of defensemen on the team capable of eating up minutes. But he won't be traded unless the return is very good.

Well if MacKenzie can be believed then Vancouver is after Bouwmeester and one of the top teams in the mix. Once again, moving Ohlund would probably only be moved if Bouwmeester was a Canuck, but today is all about the dominoes.

tylerbear* 03-04-2009 07:50 AM

If Ohlund is moved for Bouwmeester, then that's good news and well worth it.

Ohlund has been pretty weaker since the first thirty games of the season. That said it is unlikely that the Nucks would trade him without a really good return.

tylerbear* 03-04-2009 07:53 AM

I haven't been watching too many Nucks games, so I wouldn't know, but the ones I've watched, Ohlund has always looked pretty good to me.

On a side note: So funny to see you outside of the Politics forum. haha

Apparently (according to Garrioch) Vancouver has changed the offer for Bouwmeester to Bieksa + Raymond + 1st Round pick.

I could see the Nucks flipping Ohlund to Boston for a 1st and a depth d-man.

tylerbear* 03-04-2009 07:56 AM

That's a pretty big payment (Not saying an overpayment) for Bouwmeester. Vancouver must be going for it this year. Bieska would look nice in the playoffs. And with the way Vancouver has been playing, the 1st is going to be a late one.

Yep, if this rumor is true, this is what's happening. Then again, it is according to Garrioch.

ttam103 03-04-2009 07:57 AM

We'll take Kessel so we can merge Kesler and Kessel and create super Kesseler!

And continue to confuse fans on how to spell their names.

Johnny LaRue 03-04-2009 07:57 AM

I don't like any deal that gives up Bieksa and a first.

Is Bouwmeester, Vananen, and Rypien/Green really an upgrade over Bieksa, Ohlund, and Raymond?

Basically we'd be switching those players and switching 1sts with BOS. We would save $1M in cap space but basically that's the roster change. I don't think the Canucks would risk their chemistry by trading two core players for a minor (if any) upgrade.

tylerbear* 03-04-2009 08:04 AM

Is Rypien even back? If so, please trade him to Chicago.

Vaananen + Bouwmeester replace Ohlund/Bieksa offensive output, and are more stable on defense (Ohlund and Bieksa are both up and down, Ohlund surprisingly so this season).

I can see the Nucks looking for 1 forward aswell that's 2nd line/3rd liner level.

This is just PC camouflaging ,so he can say at his press conference,we tried every avenue possible but there was just noting there that worked.

I don't think so. I wouldn't be in favor of these deals. The addition of Bouwmeester would obviously be stellar, but I can't see Gillis trading away Bieksa and his cap-friendly contract for a rental player who's going to command a HUGE salary next season. Gillis needs that cap space to resign the Sedins, Luongo and Kesler over the next two seasons.

That's a hell of a deal for Florida if it's on the table. I'm smelling **** ****, that is way too much to give up.

IMO, Philadelphia and Boston don't even come close to that offer.

Thats way overpayment for Bouwmeister. Both Bieksa and Jay bo have 33 pts,Bieksa has played 10 less gms,and is signed for 2 more years at 4.75,maybe the first would be taken out,in this case.Otherwise Canucks are better off with their defence as is,and look at adding a Recchi or similar player-imo

It is bs, though i can see both Bieksa and Raymond being involved. If these guys do go for Bouwmeester than there will be something else comming back to Vancouver, likely a significant prospect or a high pick, not to mention a Vancouver 1st rnd pick would be conditional AND most importantly Gillis would need to be very confident that Bouwmeester will want to sign a offer he thinks is reasonable.

Bieksa's cap hit is only 3.75. All the more reason to hang on to him!
