I might be one of the few people that doesn't see the big deal about Vermette. Has he scored in the past 7 games? Because that's the pace he's at. Will he help? Yes. Push them over so invisible edge? No.

Needless to say, this is a big game, and pushes us into a tie. Couple a win here with an Edmonton loss and we're comfortably tied for sixth.

Not sure where you are getting your CBJ lines. The Dispatch had the following:

Nash - Malhotra - Huselius
Umberger - Vermette - Modin
Torres - Williams - Voracek
Murray - Gratton - Dorsett

Hejda - Commodore
Tyutin - Methot
Russell - Rome

Mason

Plugged in Modin and Klesla (both are expected to play according to that report), and I plugged in Vermette on the first line because I really wasn't sure where else to put him.

Malhotra with Nash and Huselius.

Is Rinne or Ellis starting tonight? I can't find any info that supports either other than the Tennessean saying that Rinne should be facing Mason.

You poolies should stop asking. It's going to be Rinne unless it's a back-to-back or injured.

You never know. I only asked because I saw that the first post has Ellis starting and since I dont follow the Preds I thought there might be something I don't know.

I didn't catch the starters. It's unusual, but Ellis does have a relatively good record against Columbus. I still think it will be Rinne, rookie of the month.

and second off, Ellis? Is there something I do not know?

Especially with our hometown paper mentioning that it will be the battle of the rookie goalies...

We didnt have a GDT up yet so I thought Id stop by for a few light hearted pregame comments on the Jackets board, nothing mean or controversial, and I was definelty not feeling the love from our expansion brethren.

no surprise... they hate us.

I used to not return the favor -- but recently, the hate for the Jackets is starting to build up. I can honestly say I do not think I have ever been pumped for a Preds-BJ's game, but I definitely am tonight.

Just a gut feeling. Rinne didn't look particularly sharp against the Oilers and I thought Trotz might give him a breather.

Alternately, Trotz might wait until Tuesday against the Caps or Thursday against the Rags to play Ellis.

We have to get Dan a start or two somewhere. Pekka's a very good goaltender, but he can only do so much.

Rinne Vs. Mason tonight.

Quote:

The goaltending matchup tonight will feature talented rookies Steve Mason of Columbus and Pekka Rinne of the Preds.

Modin is in. Klesla is not. Vermette is a maybe, he may still be in Ottawa at the moment - visa issues. They do have a private plane sitting around waiting for him.

What are you slamming on Manny for? He does his job - he wins the face-off (4th in the league) gives the puck to Juice and Nash and let's them do their jobs. ;) That being said, Manny is having a career year and has had a few multi-game point streaks this season. He isn't the ideal player, but it works out ok.

(I do recognize that he is not a "1st line center" - the only one of those we have (maybe) has been on the IR since December).

If Vermette doesn't make it, my guess would be:
Nash - Malhotra - Huselius
Modin - Umberger - Voracek
Torres - Williams - Boll
Murray - Gratton - Dorsett

or
Nash - Malhotra - Huselius
Modin - Umberger - Boll
Torres - Williams - Voracek
Murray - Gratton - Dorsett

Vermette out

Anyway this is gonna be a tough game. It'll have the intensity Tuesday had just with less scoring. Makes for nervewracking, but exciting hockey.

No, not at all... Was just pointing out that the guy that they traded for was not going to be in the game (which, whether you believe it or not, does give a lift to the guys on the team).

Vertmette was basically invisible when we played the Sens a month back.

Oh I know. I didn't mean to make it seem like it wasn't postworthy news. I was just poking fun at CBJ fans who are all up in arms about Vermette not likely to be there. I can understand how they feel though. It's always exciting when your team gets a new player especially when your trying to make the playoffs. I just think personally Vermette has been a chronic underachiever and he doesn't scare me much at all. Even though any forward that has offensive talent would help CBJ.

Big kill...Jones looking for his first NHL fight after Weber got ran but BJ wouldn't go. Suters call was a bit questionable in my mind since Jones already had one coming..on the PP now lets get 1.

deleted 03-05-2009 07:27 PM

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh, Goal Tooooooots

edit: crap no goal..still time to get one on PP

jstreet 03-05-2009 07:55 PM

it obviously hit his glove, but I didnt think he batted it into the goal. weak.

exciting first period, if a bad bounce doesnt kill us we can win this game.

Pekka is unbelievable. 2 game savers already.
