It is awesome to see players defending their sport.

Thanks for the link. Great story, Weinrich has always been a classy guy and it's nice to see some players defend Bert and the NHL.

English Hab 03-16-2004 10:25 AM

WOW... so indepth and definately something for the non-hockey loveing person, who feels that hockey is just a game for goons on skates to read!!!

Souray44 03-16-2004 10:35 AM

Thats a great read.

Congrats to Weinrich, he made a lot of really good points for the non-hockey loving person to think about. Maybe that'll be enough to change a few peoples opinions. I really hope so anyway because hockey is getting a really bad rep. in the states by the sound of it and its for the most part undeserved.

Great job Eric.

Good for Weinrich! Class act once again. This leads me to ask myself, where the heck are JR and Hull when we need them? They're happy to shoot their mouths off at any opportunity in other circumstances, why not this one? They are media darlings down there - always good for a quote - but when that same media starts to attack hockey and, implicity, Canada (more like explicitly in ESPN) they have nothing to say? I've never cared for JR or Brett too much anyways, but now I have even greater respect for Eric than I had before.

You know when you look in someone's eyes if they are intelligent. Weinrich has that look.

The lack of depth and conclusion jumping in the mainstream media says less about the event that took place on the ice, and more about the quality of reporters and news outlets themselves.

When I know little about a certain subject and I read about it in the media, I passively accept that the vast magority of the topic is well represented and the facts stated are true.

After reading crap like USA Today and watching CNN/CBC, it makes me wonder about everything else that I read and see.

I forget if it was Lou Reed, Bob Dylan or some other of my cultural references that said something that rings true.... "don't believe a word of what you read, and only half of what you see."

Always liked Weinrich... :handclap:

I really hate how the media are treating hockey after this incident.

Me too, and I'm one of those guys who tends to be biased against american players. It was extremely well written, and got to the heart of the matter. Kudos to Eric.

Those US colomnist writes about a game they never played or saw. I don't understand why hockey is rated the 80th most appreciated sport in the US. Hockey is such a great sport. Problems are: too many markets, holding & high sticking!
