The Great Dissapointment

It has been a season of ups and downs... alot of good things have come out of this year: its been the season of the goalie.. and rookies are immerging from everywhere... but what has been the most dissapointing thing to you this season?

Mario Lemieux getting injured again?
The highest scorer in the NHL having only 37 goals?
Your team was expected to have a big season, but flopped? (ie: Anaheim, Washington)

What was it about this season that made you pull your hair out?

Legionnaire 03-18-2004 01:47 AM

Kings fan-injuries and the what could have been factor.

Rotting Corpse* 03-18-2004 01:51 AM

Bertuzzi :\

Only 17 goals, and then ... the incident.

Freudian 03-18-2004 02:05 AM

Forsberg. As dominant as he ever has been and keeps getting re-injured.

Gaborik. I really thought he was going to keep improving but has had a rough year.

Forsberg will make up for it when it counts the most.

The off ice issue's and the way the media brought it, made Mike Modano having his worst season ever. One of the most consistant players, Mike should've been a lock for 30/35 goals and 80/85 points once again, but instead isn't even on pace for the half of it.

Evilo 03-18-2004 05:52 AM

Mario of course....

PecaFan 03-18-2004 06:14 AM

My fantasy hockey team. Each year, we have 5 keepers. My core:

Modano.
Gaborik.
Allison.
McInnis.
Sundin.

Four of the five with their worst years in their entire careers.

Not to mention last year's core of Theo Fleury and Pronger. I swear, I am personally responsible for ending a ton of NHL careers. :)

Raging Bull 03-18-2004 06:46 AM

I'd say lack of goal scoring. Nobodys going to get 50 most likely unless they go on a rampage with like 8 games left.

Bertuzzi without a doubt has to be the biggest disappointment for the league this year. This whole thing was talked about for nearly a week on various television outlets. A bomb that blows apart a Spanish railway station and kills how many people didn't receive the kind of attention as the incident. With all the other problems the league has on and off the ice, the only thing worse for the game would be someone dying because of malicious action. This wasn't what the league needed at a time when they didn't need it.

There's no way the Bertuzzi incident got more media attention than the Madrid train bombing. Come on now. NBC Nightly News and the rest of the big networks spent most of their telecasts on the situation in Spain since the bombing last Thursday. Bertuzzi barely got a 10 second mention by Tom Brokaw as "Hockey's Hit Man".

I guess it depended on the station. I think it was CNN where their major headline was Bertuzzi's punch instead of Madrid's train bombings. And CNN wonders how Fox News has surpassed them in ratings...

PecaFan, your pool picks are like a voodoo doll or something. :) My sister was like that whenever she participated in the family hockey pool. John LeClair? Back surgery, gone for all but 10 games. Donald Audette? Severed tendons, gone for almost the whole season.

My disappointments are the number of 0-0 ties(which wouldn't be so bad if there were quality scoring chances, but there weren't), Mario's bad luck with injuries and the child-like banter between the NHL and the NHLPA during the whole CBA negotiation process(or lack thereof).

Higgy4 03-18-2004 10:47 AM

My biggest disappointment is that every damn thread on these boards always turns into a Bertuzzi thread.

SumOfUs 03-18-2004 11:05 AM

Patrick Lalime.

Bill McNeal 03-18-2004 11:12 AM

Been a great year to be a Habs fan. 3 break out players, Theo back to form, everyone playing their best. Nobody really expected anything, myself included.

If I had to pick a disappointment, and this is stretching it because it's not even the NHL, but Canada losing in the gold medal game AGAIN at the WJCs. Drove me nuts.

Luigi Lemieux 03-18-2004 11:19 AM

mario getting injured.

although it's been reported that he'll start skating soon. so hopefully we'll see him at the world cup and next season as well.

something to consider is that maybe the injuries were a blessing. the "adversity" factor is huge, in hockey...and a bunch of guys working their tails off might carry you further than having all "superstars."

Rowsdower 03-18-2004 11:55 AM

Lemieux's injury would have to be the biggest disappointment for me (in a Pens campaign loaded with em).....the infamous streak also deserves mention...

McMatty 03-18-2004 11:55 AM

Oilers
1) Salo - just too inconsistent.
2) Oates - all he has brought is a warm body to occupy a hole, and winning faceoffs.
3) Rita - not getting a fair chance, nor is he exactly deserving of one.
4) Being on the outside looking in on the playoff race (still have the fingers crossed on that one ;)).
5) York and Isbister injuries - were both looking great (especially York, who was on pace for Oiler's MVP), then got injured.

Verbal Kint* 03-18-2004 12:13 PM

As a Leafs fan, just freak injuries (i.e. Nolan and Tucker) and consistency.

AGraveOne 03-18-2004 12:38 PM

As a Ranger Fan...the whole team. Sather. Dolan.

Why should i be disappointed, it's nothing new. I just hoped...what a dolt.

^that...

also Arvedson going down

Mizral 03-18-2004 01:31 PM

The biggest dissapointment of the year has to be the Dany Heatley/Dan Snyder car crash, without a doubt.

Others I would include are the Todd Bertuzzi/Steve Moore incident, Lemieux getting injured the whole season, and, in general, the Chicago Blackhawks organization.

For me it's Samsonov's year.
Too little production (although very timely at times) and two long injuries.
