Ticket Sales Thread Tips on getting pre/post game autographs Jersey Sales and Discussion Final Prospect Ranking - Summer 2011 2011 Entry Draft Selections All Things Viewing (Providers, Streams, Etc) ---------------------------------------------------------- Some recent questions about forum rules have prompted a face-lift to the NYR specific policies. "Problems" seem to ebb and flow, so does the way we handle them. Just so we're all clear on expectations here.... SPAM – a post with no content, that offers nothing to the discussion is considered spam. Examples:
Posts will be deleted without explanation. Repeat offenders will receive a spamming infraction. I'm sorry, but it's just become a HUGE problem that wastes bandwidth, space on the page and peoples time. New Threads –
Airing of Grievances – matters of board business are not to be discussed in the forum. If you have question, comment or issue with an Administrator or Moderator, please handle it via PM’s. That includes concerns about the board policy. Wishing for death or injury to a player, coach or official – To put it bluntly, it won’t be tolerated under any circumstance. Posts will be deleted and the appropriate infraction applied. As always, HF rules also apply. |
Folks:
Not sure what's causing this new phenomena of bumping month(s) old threads. But let's keep it current, please. |
I'm bumping this again and asking people READ BEFORE POSTING!
We're not going to spend the day merging threads because you're too lazy to scroll half way down the first page and find an existing thread on the EXACT same topic. As of 10:00AM Thursday, duplicate threads will be deleted and users unwilling to read before posting will receive spamming infractions, no questions asked. |
It's getting out of control again. READ BEFORE YOU START A THREAD.
If you come across a news story, there's a good chance its been posted here. So read the board to see if it is. If it's not, the start a new thread. Not that hard. |
Time for a bump it seems.
I'll just add that if you don't like the boards during the summer, nobody is forcing you visit them during the summer. |
Okay guys and gals, time for a reminder here:
-If you do not like a thread, don't read it. Definitely don't post in the thread that you think it's a dumb thread. -Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Having a different opinion doesn't make someone stupid. -CHECK THE BOARD BEFORE YOU CREATE A NEW TOPIC. We've had to delete a ridiculous number of duplicate threads lately. I've deleted four "Power Ranking" threads for four different posters tonight. I'd also recommend taking a look at the rules again, just as a refresher. Thanks. |

Guys, the duplicate threads have to stop.
Also, the flaming has gotten a bit out of control. Posts that belittle, insult or attempt to embarrass another poster will not be tolerated. I understand the current state of the Rangers has people testy. But that's no excuse to attack other posters. |

Come on, guys and gals. As a reminder:
-"Fixed" -"This" -Random smiley -OT picture ...are ALL considered spam, and will be deleted, at minimum. It's become such a problem lately that we're going to have to start doling out infractions to those that won't stop. So please, stop. |

We're going to start giving infractions. |
I'm going to say this once and only once:
It's getting too chippy around here. Argue your points in a respectful manner. There's no need to attack other posters or attempt to belittle one another. If you can't agree to disagree, then move on. The bickering has to stop. |
Rules Refresher (1/26: STOP CREATING REDUNDANT THREADS!)
With this rocky start to the season, it seems (unfortunately) necessary to provide a reminder about the rules of the board.
Flaming There has been way too much of it lately. Not just out and out insults, but more subtle, snarky comments. It makes the board an incredibly frustrating place to spend time on when everyone is involved in a minor pissing match. People that engage in this type of behavior and derail threads will be infracted and thread banned. Trolling Trolling is always an issue, made worse by the team's rough start. Opposing fans love to come in and poke fun at us. REPORT THE POSTS! Do not respond. We will deal with the trolls. When 50 people quote the troll, it just makes more work for the moderators when we're cleaning up. So please, do us a favor, report the post and move along! Spam Yes, random posts containing nothing but smilies, "QFT," "In b4 the lock," "this/agree/x100," and so forth are still considered spam. Those types of comments will be deleted, and chronic offender will be warned or infracted. The same goes for random images and videos that add nothing to the discussion. Random Trade Proposals We've literally had two trade proposals per day hitting our board over the past two weeks. It's ridiculous. Either someone make a "Official Trade Proposal Thread," or take the proposals to the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk board. The majority of people come to HF Rangers to discuss the current team, not to sift through numerous proposals centered around Wojtek Wolski and Erik Christensen. If people continue to post these crazy proposals, we'll delete the thread and issue a spam infraction. Starting Redundant Threads Please read the first page or two of topics before starting a new thread. There's a good chance what you want to discuss fits nicely into and existing thread. For instance, we had three Sean Avery threads floating around a few days ago. There's no need for this. It makes it much to read the board without the same exact discussion taking place in multiple threads. Lastly, it would behoove everyone to reread the Site Rules. They've been streamlined in recent years, and it seriously takes two minutes to read them. Things have gotten a little out of hand here recently and it needs to stop. Thanks everyone. |

1) Misrepresenting someone's opinion/misquoting other posters. This has been going on a lot lately. If you are going to claim that a person said something, please make sure you aren't putting words in their mouth. It derails discussions and starts unnecessary altercations. An excerpt from the rules: Quote:

Folks, I don't know what's with the recent uptick in "Stupid thread!" posts, but it needs to stop. If you think a thread is dumb, don't read it or use the ignore thread function.
Posts I'm talking about: "Stupid thread" "Lock/delete this thread" "This thread shouldn't exist" "Facepalm" Those posts are going to receive infractions for spam from this point forward. Thanks. |
I'm just going to start infracting folks who can't express their opinions and behave reasonably in a debate without resorting to personal attacks and insults. It shows a sincere lack of maturity, from people claiming to be old-time hockey fans.
We reiterate rules time and time again, to no avail. Maybe I've just been too soft on this stuff. I promise, it wont happen again. |
We've been having a problem with posters mentioning their ignore lists in GDTs lately.
This is not allowed within the site rules. I realize it's a bit of a lesser known policy, but to quote Rule 6 and Rule 1: Quote:

Folks,
It is playoff time. People from enemy forums will visit. All global mods sitewide may have to step in and deal with issues, and my observations tonight lead me to make this post, and one specific point: FOR THE LOVE OF MODERATION PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO TROLLS AND JUST REPORT THEM INSTEAD!!!!! Vigilante justice of telling a troll to GTFO or whatever makes things worse, and could inadvertently get you into trouble as well. Just report the post, let a mod deal with it and clean the thread up and all is better. But the more you feed the trolls, the harder of a job it is for mods, and that's no fun. We want to watch the playoffs, too, so why give us more work? Also, not all people from enemy forums will troll. Many are polite. Be polite back to them. They shouldn't expect the red carpet to be rolled out for their team, but they shouldn't have a valid point rejected because you decide to yell "TROLL!" at them. Thank you for understanding. |
Hey Guys,
After talking with several mods we were able to get a other mods to recognize the term "Rags" as derogatory. They have graciously been following up on that. So I request we return the favor and please refrain from using terms such as Debbies, Piles, Senaturds, Philty, etc. If other boards are nice enough to recognize we don't like it we should return the favor. The term isn't completely removed as you will still see people using it but some mods are starting to correct it if they see it. I will be returning the favor for those mods that have taken the time to change it. One other issue we've had a lot of trouble with lately is spam. Posts that are simply images, emoticons, videoes that service absolutely no purpose re considered spam and deleted. Please try to refrain from making these useless posts. Thanks, and I'd you have any questions feel free to ask me via PM. |
The starting of new threads is getting out of hand around here. You guys need to rein yourselves in and start being more judicious about what is and is not thread worthy. The board is getting cluttered with all kinds of nonsense and not only is it wasting people's time to have to look through this, but it makes the board messy, not particularly fun to sift through, and wastes space. Worst of all, it waters down the discussion and hurts the quality of the discussion in the threads that are actually worth following.
If a topic is already being discussed in one or especially multiple threads, then there is no need for you to start a new thread. Have the common decency to at least look at the first page or two of the board before determining that your topic needs a thread. You may find that an appropriate thread already exists. Furthermore, not every piece of minutiae that passes through your mind is necessarily something that you need to start a thread about. Think a little bit more carefully about whether or not what you want to discuss isn't already being discussed elsewhere, or if it is something that needs to be discussed at all. |
Once again, cool it with starting new threads. There are plenty of open threads. Start a thread if you want to discuss something of significant interest that isn't already being discussed elsewhere. Not all random thoughts that pop into your minds are thread-worthy.
I'm going to start handing out infractions pretty soon if this continues. |
Alright, since the NHL will be back soon and there will be a flurry of posters coming back, now would be a good time to refresh yourself with a few rules:
Flaming: don't insult the users of this forum. Debate an opinion, not the poster themselves. Spam: If your post adds nothing to the convo and is just there to take up space, it's spam. Don't post just for the sake of doing so. Board's going to be experiencing more traffic, so we gotta try and keep the forum as uncluttered as possible. To go along with spam, please try to keep the thread making to a minimum. Make sure there's a purpose for your thread, and if there's already a similar topic, post your inquiry in there. Thanks, and let's get ready for some hockey! |
