Puck Daddy proposes Drury for Marleau

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc...urn=nhl,161301

Quite an interesting proposal. He reiterates that it is NOT a legit rumor, but something that he and his cohorts have kicked around the hot stove. I think it makes sense for each team to deal their captains here, but would like some other opinions of both Sharks and Rangers fans alike.

detredWINgs 05-05-2009 02:37 PM

Puck Daddy must be lurking on the Wings board I post at. I proposed this trade the night San Jose got knocked out of the playoffs.

In all reality though, the Rags have to add something to their end.

Marleaus contract > Drurys contract
Marleaus skills > Drurys skills

But if San Jose is serious about winning in the post-season, they should sacrifice a little skill for some heart.

I would pass.

Don't really care for Drury, and think his post season awesomeness is a bit overrated (though I was shocked at how high up he is for GWG in the playoffs- Marleau is 10th among active players BTW).

Rickety Cricket 05-05-2009 02:39 PM

The Sharks don't have a lot of cap room, I don't like this from a Sharks standpoint.

Le Rosbeef 05-05-2009 02:40 PM

I'm ready for a change and I think Marleau should be too.

I think he'd melt in NY's spotlight though so I can't see him waiving his NTC to go there...

Trxjw 05-05-2009 03:39 PM

Have to think the Rangers would be all over this.

Why would Marleau be ready for a change? He just had a kid. He's not waiving his NTC for any place.

If he were to, I could see him waiving it for LA. Its close enough to SJ for his family. But even then, I think the chances of that happening are slim.

Boba Fettuccine 05-05-2009 03:47 PM

I think this trade would work for both teams, so no way in hell it will actually happen

Burlington Bomb 26 05-05-2009 03:49 PM

Drury laughs devilishly and shows Sather his full NMC.

TheHotRock 05-05-2009 03:50 PM

i think san jose gets ***** in this deal.

rangers would probably have to add a pick and san jose would have to be drinking the "drury's intangibles" kool aid.

Cherepanisimov 05-05-2009 03:52 PM

YAY!!! Kovalchuk money!!!

:sarcasm: x 1/2

King30Henrik 05-05-2009 03:53 PM

yes, yes, yes

Reaper45 05-05-2009 06:44 PM

I can't see either team doing this. Both guys are expensive as all hell so the savings is minimal and each player has no desire to move from their respective teams.

Lebanezer 05-06-2009 12:12 PM

That's just awful.

Drury's contract is pretty rank for his skills, but as was previously mentioned, he's got heart and might be able to inject life into the Sharks. I might consider it with some more (a pick) if I were San Jose.

OmniSens 05-06-2009 12:38 PM

Sharks say no.

Isles_Guy* 05-06-2009 01:49 PM

if the sharks could do this they should, they are too talented to keep losing when it counts

They are the Hockeys version of OZ tin man, They need Drury and he's wasted on the Rangers

PotaGuitar 05-06-2009 02:03 PM

not saying that I agree with the deal or anything but Sharks fans need to wake up and realize that the skill level of our team isn't what got us ousted in the early rounds, AGAIN. If we have to sacrifice a little bit of skill for some heart and determination, then so be it.

braindead 05-06-2009 02:13 PM

Jed Ortmeyer has heart and determination. Actually Vern Fiddler and Jerred Smithson do as well. All three are a fraction of the cost of Drury so on behalf of the Predators I hereby offer them in exchange for Marleau.

I think my deal has the same chance of getting done in the real world, too.

Drake1588 05-06-2009 02:48 PM

I don't see enough going to the Sharks, although to be fair to Drury, his disappointing play in the playoffs was directly tied to injuries. If he's still playing right now and a force in the second round, we're probably saying the Sharks would need to add more and/or that Drury isn't available at any price.

Of course, due to his ironclad NMC, Drury may not be available at any price anyway.

voxel 05-06-2009 04:38 PM

Drury + two 2nds maybe... one for one is underpayment by the Rangers.

Drury played with a broken right hand which was suffered in the Rangers second to last regular season game against Philly.

What spotlight?

Marleau would not be playing baseball or football.

That is where the microscope is pointed in NY.

Rem 05-06-2009 04:53 PM

awful, just awful.
