Gagne had laser eye surgery

This came out of the blue to me:

Quote:

Flyers left winger Simon Gagne underwent corrective laser eye surgery at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia on Tuesday, and yesterday he said all went well.

Gagne said he had the procedure (known as PRK, or photorefractive keratectomy) performed because it was becoming bothersome to wear contacts while playing hockey. He has worn contacts for about three years.

"My eyes were very sensitive and I was always having to put drops in, so I decided to go ahead and get this done," he said, adding it would take "a couple weeks" before he sees the results.

Gagne, 29, said he has had problems seeing things in the distance. With the procedure, which did not involve any cutting, he hopes to have perfect vision.

After missing most of the 2007-08 campaign because of a concussion, Gagne made an impressive comeback and scored 34 goals this season.

With improved eyesight, he thinks his goal total may rise.

"The doctor said it should give me five to 10 more goals a year," he said with a laugh, "so I went ahead and did it."

Gagne accumulated 74 points this season, including a career-high 40 assists.

Glad everything went well, and if it really gives him 10 more goals a year, look out! :D

Cheers to that. I would hate to play with contacts too.

JagerPuck 05-07-2009 05:41 AM

Playing with contacts is really annoying.
Glad he got the surgery.

Is our whole team going to have off season surgery?

Cuiff 05-07-2009 06:46 AM

Hope this explains all his shots that go wide of the net:D

Wonder if he was effected by this after his sensational start. We know he got off to an insane start and at one point was pacing for something like 65 goals and 111 points, but then he slowed down.

It's wishful thinking, but what if it was the constant irritation of his eyes?

They have an extra month to heal. Might as well take advantage of it.

Although it makes me wonder if they all physically had it in them to make it through 4 rounds.

I can't remember an off-season where the Flyers haven't had surgery. I much prefer Gagne getting this done over groin/shoulder surgery, plus this surgery has become common practice in sports with good results and a short recovery time.

BerubeBox* 05-07-2009 09:44 AM

Before you know it it'll be less common for a player not to have off-season surgery.

One step closer to cyborgs. :naughty:

ToTheNet 05-07-2009 09:49 AM

Awesome, Cyclops is on the Flyers now?!?! Laser eyes RULE! I think we should draft Colossus and bring in some real nastyness on the blueline. Some big metal dude who just ends people's lives with his hits.

L-train* 05-07-2009 09:55 AM

Imagine the suspensions Dickweed would fork out if a Flyer cyborg killed someone on the ice.

I think Simon should be ok. Kim Kardashian got laser eye surgery and had a *****cat dolls show they next day! She's a warrior though, she always plays through injuries.:sarcasm:

They can ware off. It's rare but it happened to my sister she had to get it done again. I hope it doesn't happen to Gagne.

This reminds me of an Entourage episode.

ForsbergIsOdin 05-07-2009 11:14 AM

God dammit I want corrective Eye Surgery too.

**** you Simon

i've thought about this as well - and the answer is no. i know we need to get this goalie issue resolved, and we'll need to do something about our D, but the 3rd line veteran/defensive center looks pretty crucial right now. our best players were worn down and beat up. we need to stop this penalty ******** too.

I was thinking the same thing. Soon will have to change the team name to Spartans and change our colors to pearlecent green and black!!!

LMAO that they censored "kitty"cat dolls!

I'd love to get this surgery but my eyes keep getting worse and they say they have to stay "stable" for more than a year.

eroth 05-07-2009 08:06 PM

hopefully this doesn't end up like Brian McCann of the Braves. The poor guy could hardly see out of one eye and now needs to wear glasses while playing, since due to the surgery, his eys are too dry for contacts again.

chimrichalds18 05-07-2009 09:24 PM

i think i had the same surgery that he had (no cutting involved). it was wild as hell, and there was a bit of pain right away, but my vision is perfect now.

PhillyFan4Ever 05-07-2009 10:09 PM

a pic of gag's doctor.... killer playoff face.

I need some of this crap done to me. My eyes never stay the same though.

She should be on our blue line.
