What Players/UFA's will Mr. Burke target this offseason?

Just interested in who you guys think would be a good fit in the Leafs organization, and what Brian Burke is willing to give up in order to aquire these assets?

blasted_Sabre 05-07-2009 05:51 PM

I think Burke is going to be quiet this summer, with his major signing being Gustavson (if it happens). He'll make some trades, get some assets, and keep lots of room for next offseason when the Leafs will be ready to get back into the playoff hunt.

ugotmybeef* 05-07-2009 05:55 PM

Gustavson, Beauchimin, Cammellari are the 3 i'll think he'll try for and I think he'll get two of the 3.

He'll sign some veteran role players to help the kids develop and might go for a castoff "young veteran" C (like what the Sabres did with Drury. Homer example, I know.). For some reason, I don't expect a blockbuster out of him.

Beauchemin probably.

I think he will go hard after the Sedin twins, the Niedermayer brothers, Pronger via trade, Gustavsson, re-sign May, Pahlsson, Moen, Beauchemin, a true enforcer (maybe Brashear?), an agitator/middleweight (Neil?), maybe Ohlund and others.

Why dont you just say the whole league and be done with it, lol?

Sean Garrity 05-08-2009 12:40 AM

you can book Beauchemin at least getting an offer from Burke. Pahlsson as well, hell Burke likes to keep the same players around, so expect ex-Ducks/Canucks to be in his mind...

kingscup 05-08-2009 12:55 AM

All your player are belong to Burke.

TML g u n n e R s* 05-08-2009 07:42 AM

The Sedins!

sharpie 05-08-2009 02:15 PM

Beauchemin, Cammaleri, Gustavson, Malholtra, Pahlsson (NHL)
Josh Gratton, Kevin Westgarth (AHL)

I believe he will sign 2-3 players in the offseason. Maybe ones from above, maybe others. He may also persue the trade route. Trying to rid some more dead weight if he can.

IWD 05-08-2009 02:34 PM

I think Beauchemin and Orr. I think he'll look into the trade route, otherwise.

Luke Schenn and the 7th pick. Everything else = doggy sheet

Habsterix* 05-10-2009 09:40 AM

Why is this not in the Leafs' section? :help:

It wouldn't suprise me to see Toronto go get some veteran experiance to mentor the kids for a few seasons and prepare them for the playoffs

Yes, you and I usually agree a lot on our board, but Chris Neil would be a beast against the Sens and Habs!

I think Burke will sign Cammalleri personally. But it all depends on how he does on draft day. If he trades Kaberle and/or Kubina he'll have to replace them, so maybe he'll look to bring in Komisarek.

If he does trade and up lands Tavares I think he'll bring in Cammalleri to provide 1st line scoring, and he'll have to replace Kaberle with a UFA D'man.

Don't be surprised if he brings in Steve Montadore as a 5th or 6th D'man role player.

i expect mike knuble to go to toronto. big guy, plays hard, outspoken veteran guy who can get goals down low. hes coming off a 30 goal year and will be looking to cash in and toronto has the space. hes a definite workhorse brian burke type player.

Teamcanada 05-10-2009 02:45 PM

What he should do:
Sign young players to minor-type deals.
Wait for the next off-season to be a major player (ala the Knicks in the NBA [Lebron, Wade, Bosh])

What he will do:
Sign the Sedins
Sign Cammalerri
Sign Gustaffson
Sign some plug veterans
Miss the playoffs by a couple of points.

Hanta Yo 05-10-2009 04:44 PM

Im hoping Burke doesnt use cap space for unnecessary players. It would be nice to perhaps go for Rick Nash next year:sarcasm:

Orr was one of the most useless players in the league this year.

Beauchemin, however, would be a good pick-up as long as he doesn't want a ridiculous contract (which Burke won't give out anyways) and as long as we move one or two of Kaberle, Kubina, Van Ryn, or Finger (:shakehead if only).

bobermay 05-11-2009 03:41 PM

Bouwmeester, Gaborik, Gustavsson and more draft picks :D ;) :neener:
