Ducks at Preds, GDT 3-23

the "not-pretty" approach worked last time, let's try it again :D

Ducks just got off a big win over the Wings, so here's to hoping that was their last hurrah. This is the sort of game we have to be winning, if we want to get in.

Basher 03-23-2004 12:02 PM

Forget not-pretty GDT, this needs to be down and dirty. I think they'll be gunnin' for us after the last game we gave them, so we need to play physical and dominate them in the neutral zone and along the boards. That is where tonights game will be played, I'm guessing. I feel a low scoring game either way.

golfmade 03-23-2004 01:29 PM

I saw a stat that Giggy hasn't won a game against us this season. Anyways, let's roast some duck and get closer to Calgary!

Basher 03-23-2004 03:46 PM

yea, i was too nomo...the down and dirty gdt - which would also indicated the way we needed to play. 2 birds with 1 trotz. :yo:

Cerebral 03-23-2004 03:50 PM

Go Ducks.. [/troll] :D

Joe T Choker 03-23-2004 04:03 PM

This week = 6 points or we're not getting in, PERIOD, against the Ducks, Rangers and BJs, if we don't get 6 points in the next three games, we don't deserve to make the playoffs.

I would love for Edmonton and Nashville to both make the playoffs., it would be a heck of alot more interesting than a :TeamX: vs LA series. Who wants to see the Blues or Kings in the postseason?, you should be cheering for us.

golfmade 03-23-2004 04:20 PM

Is Tootoo going to play tonight?

hmm... I think more importantly is Arhkipov going to play? Did you read the article in today's Titanssean? Sounds like Trotzy wants to move Legwand and Arkhipov down to 3rd and 4th line and get some one new up front for next season. These guys better get to proving themselves.

Arkhi, Hnidy, McKenzie were scratches.

golfmade 03-23-2004 07:49 PM

Congrats to Walker, his 100th goal :handclap:

hnidy was a "scratch" in quotes, as he's in ottawa with his daughter. york is back, though. tootoo laid a pretty monster hit on someone(pahlsson, i think)

PredsFan77* 03-23-2004 08:13 PM

Need a goal off this PP, we need to make the most of our opportunities...

DontCallPlayersStuds 03-23-2004 08:25 PM

boy, we are playing one horrible, sloppy game. we've spent the whole time in our own end.

golfmade 03-23-2004 08:35 PM

Ugh, more slop.

DontCallPlayersStuds 03-23-2004 08:37 PM

well, the playoffs were a nice thought, while it lasted.

golfmade 03-23-2004 09:23 PM

Why'd they bother to even get out of bed today if this is the way they're gonna play?

DontCallPlayersStuds 03-23-2004 09:33 PM

" * " = insert any name on the team

"puck bounces off of *'s stick "

" * can't hold the pass"

" * loses the puck, skating into the zone"

" * can't get wood on the shot"

we got outhustled and outworked...again. someone said that maybe the ducks "shot their load" against the wings on sunday. i think we shot ours in calgary. what's that, 2 wins in 11 games?

you think attendance was bad this year?

wait til you see a tuesday night in november next year, after missing the playoffs for six straight years. we'll be seeing the 8500 mark.

this is infuriating, but we brought it on ourselves.

Oilers fan here. *runs and hides*

Don't get too down on yourselves, or the team. You still have a very favourable schedule, and have some very winnable games down the stretch (what's left of it). There's no reason why the Oilers and Preds both can't make the playoffs. The Kings are falling fast, and the Blues are still underperforming.

we do appreciate the kind words. the problem is..with the way we're playing right now, no game is "winnable." it would be one thing if we were playing our hearts out, every game..but even coach horachek said, in between periods,

"This team isn't playing with desperation or heart. They're treating this like any other game, not a game that they need in a push to make the playoffs"

That's been the story for a while now. We came back with one good effort in Calgary..and then laid this egg. We didn't turn it on until late. It's extremely frustrating and disheartening. The blues might be underperforming, but no one is underperforming worse than us. Some team is going to get in by default because we'll play ourselves out of the spot.

How to blow a season volume one....

I understand where you're coming from. Remember that stretch where the Oilers seemed to go into overtime every single game and then lose it because they gave up a lead late in the game? It seemed like the team didn't know how to close any game out.

My point is, even when things look horribly bad, they can get better. I honestly don't think LA has anything left in the tank, so I don't think "we" have to worry about them. That leaves St. Louis. And with Anaheim seemingly playing better, the Blues are no lock for their matchup. And, I think the Preds will rebound. There's a reason why you have 82 points, and that's the same reason why you will get more before the season's done and over.

PS. By comparison, the Blues are underachieving more so than any other Western team. They have the largest payroll for a team out of the playoffs, I think.
