Islanders/Colorado/Dallas

Islanders Get:
3rd Overall Pick
8th Overall Pick
2nd Round Pick from Colorado

Avalanche Get:
1st Overall Pick

Dallas Gets:
JM Liles

Ensane 05-18-2009 01:44 PM

Dallas gives up their #8 pick to get JM Liles?

:biglaugh:

Where do I sign up?

There's no way the Isles get that kind of a package for the 1st. Sorry.

Modo 05-18-2009 01:44 PM

:biglaugh:

Oh wow, now that took some effort, I must admit.

Well done, OP, you've made me laugh. That was your goal, wasn't it?

ArVeeDee 05-18-2009 01:44 PM

Why would Dallas trade the 8th OA for JM Liles? That pick carries a lot more value and the Stars need to stock up on more young talent.

andora 05-18-2009 01:46 PM

avs fan, i'd do it

Andre Benoit Bawls 05-18-2009 01:46 PM

If he only wanted to make this semi-insane, it would have been Liles, 3rd, 2nd rounder for the 1st overall, but he had to go full-insane.

Sure they would. For the right to pick John Tavares? 2 High draft picks and a 2nd rounder isn't exactly a king's ransom. JM Liles is a very good offensive d-man and a perfect fit for Dallas who is built to win now.

The top-3 for the draft are hardly set in stone at this point. Now it might just be idle speculation, but enough uncertainty has surrounding who is going where in the top-3 to make teams less likely to unload a ton of assets just to move up or down a spot or two.

As for the trade itself, the Isles are getting a top-10 pick and a high second rounder to move down two spots. That's outrageous considering the fact that Tavares isn't regarded as one of those generational talents that would necessitate such a return.

Liles is coming off a down year which showed that he's not capable of being a #1 defenseman on a nightly basis. He just signed a long-term deal as well. With all the concerns for long-term contracts, I'm not even sure the Avs could get a 2nd round pick for him at this point. They certainly couldn't get a top-10 pick for him; not in this draft--not in any draft.

So in summation, the Isles take this and walk away smiling, but it's all for naught because Dallas and Colorado wouldn't be on board.

Good to know.

Guess that explains your thought process in coming up with this disaster.

Hey, anytime I can set anyone straight. :yo:

Sneekypete 05-18-2009 02:21 PM

i just want hedman > avs... i'd trade 3rd and liles for hedman.. .

frees up a spot/salary on the back end.. i'm not confident they can move clark's salary anyway..

I think you're missing the point. Avalanche fans would clearly do it. Dallas fans wouldn't touch this. JM Liles is probably not even worth the 30th pick, let alone the 8th.

Sony Eriksson* 05-18-2009 02:37 PM

All this proposal is to bolster the team he supports while handcuffing the other teams mentioned....lock this **** please.

Clearly that's not the case. Some may--depending on your opinion of Hedman or Tavares, but most would not.

Considering the fact that Colorado is in full bore rebuild mode, if in whatever fantasy world they get that much for Liles in return, then they'd be much better off having two top-10 picks and the high second rounder.

Exactly...

Teams know Colorado is in rebuild mode. There is no way teams are going to help them achieve that without getting overpayment in return.

i'm all for that as well...

NOTENOUGHBREWER 05-18-2009 02:54 PM

If the Avs are in full blown rebuild I'd rather have that 8th overall pick + Duchene rather than only Tavares.
