Gilbert+Cogliano for Gomez + Rights to Zherdev

Gilbert(4.0)+Cogliano(1.133) for Gomez(7.357) and the rights to Zherdev

(5.133 mil) for (7.357 mil)

The Oilers land a number 1 center(Gomez) and a top 3 player in Zherdev. The rangers lose some salary and gain a good young forward in Cogliano + a puckmoving defenseman.

thedjpd 05-18-2009 02:24 PM

Horcoff is more of a #1 center than Drury.

Traktor* 05-18-2009 02:33 PM

Cogliano is easily the best asset in the deal.

Horrible deal for Edmonton.

I'd rather have Horc at 5.5 than Drury at 7 million and I'm probably Horcoff's biggest critic on HF. That says a helluva lot about Drury.

Modo 05-18-2009 02:35 PM

Oilers don't touch this one, Rangers are stuck with Drury.

SedinFan* 05-18-2009 02:36 PM

Don't trade for stupid contracts. I know Horcoff's is pretty stupid, but why give up a good young (Cogliano) for a dumb contract in Drury's?

Makes absolutely no sense from an Oilers point of view.

hlundqvist30* 05-18-2009 02:37 PM

No deal unless you give us Hemsky and Gilbert and we'll give you Redden and Voros.

Did you forget the :sarcasm: smiley?

Trxjw 05-18-2009 02:43 PM

No thanks. I'll stick with Drury, who despite the larger hit, has fewer years left on his deal.

I also think Drury is a better player.

No, but I did forget the 2009 and 2010 first rounders they have to include as well.

How does Edmonton have to add anything? Horcoff is as good (maybe slightly worse) then Drury but is 2 mill cheaper. Then we add in a good 3rd liner who will become a second liner.

Oilers say hell no

I would much prefer Horcoff over Drury when you consider everything.

No way would I throw in Cogliano to increase our payroll on a questionable first line C.

An Oil fan made this?

That was my exact reaction....I didn't think it was possible that this could have been an edmonton fan.

From a Ranger perspective, despite his horrible contract, I would rather keep Drury.

WJG 05-18-2009 03:41 PM

Drury hates Canada

I'd rather do Horcoff and Pisani for Gomez

PDO 05-18-2009 03:41 PM

Outside of the obvious (Horcoff/Drury are very comparable players, with Drury's cap hit being significantly higher; so why are the Oilers adding Cogliano to have that pleasure?)...

.... Drury HATED playing in Canada and has publicly stated he would never play in Canada again.

Thread fail.

Thefalkon 05-18-2009 03:45 PM

Done deal :)

RangerBoy 05-18-2009 03:46 PM

Drury has only 3 years remaining. It goes pretty fast.

Winter. Summer. Winter. Summer.

Hall2Nuge2Ebs 05-18-2009 04:47 PM

How about Gilbert + Cogliano for Gomez and the rights to Zherdev?

The Oilers complete their top line and the Rangers lose some salary

No. It's not bad value wise, but we can't afford to Gilbert $4 million a season for such a long time when we have Redden, and have Del Zotto and Sangs coming up. We know we're going to have to take back a bad contract for Gomez, but I'd rather take Penner to be honest. He's a forward and his contract isn't as long.

I do like Cogliano though.

With the rumour of Jagr coming to Edmonton I feel like the Oilers top line is set. Jagr will go LW to play with his pal Hemsky and the Oil then have:

Jagr Horcoff Hemsky
O'sullivan Gagner Kotalik
Penner Cogs Moreau
Pisani Nilsson Pouliot (Stortini)

Which IMO is three lines that could work well. Penner will be better with a new coach and a new system so could switch up and go on the second line.

Gomez has already been paid $18 million of the $51.5 million. He has $33.5 million remaining($6.7 million per average/$7.357 million cap hit) which is what the top free agent centers/forwards(i.e. Sedins)will receive this summer.

That's nice. I would take either Sedin over Gomez any day. And the cap hit is the most important part in todays NHL, and the Sedins will not have a 7.3 cap hit.

The only problem is that both of the Sedins want to play together which would mean that a team would have to dish out about 13 million for the two.

Well everyone but the most entertaining homers would take Sedins at 13M$ over a single gomez at 7+
