Tor-Tbl-Nyi

To Leafs:
1st 0verall NYI

To Isles:
2nd overall TBL
7th overall TOR

To Bolts:
Thomas Kaberle
Sharks 1st 09
Frans Nielson
Anton Stralman

Based on all of the rumors going on about the leafs wanting tavares and the Isles wanting hedman i thought this would be a deal that would work for all the teams, what do you think

Hurt 05-19-2009 03:23 PM

I think that looks fair. Toronto moves up to what they want, Isles move down ONE spot and get a top 10 to go with theirs and TB moves down 5 spots get a 1st, Top dman, decent prospect in Stralman and a young up and coming center. I may be wrong though.

X0X0A0 05-19-2009 03:26 PM

I doubt the Lightning have any interest in Kaberle, especially at the price of moving down that far.

Tampa is going to want Schenn, not Stralman and Kaberle.

And, Isles are not going to move Frans Nielsen, who Gordon loves.

But, all that said, looking at this from just an Isles perspective, I think this deal is one-sided in our favor. Nielsen, the 26th overall, and a drop from 1st to 2nd is a great price for a the 7th overall.

id have to agree...i think schenn maybe makes that even remotely possible. the 26th pick is a ginormous drop

I don't think anybody outside of Toronto would disagree.

Dragon Priest 05-19-2009 03:30 PM

Hey good proposal! I think this actually looks good, given the Leafs are truly committed to landing the 1st pick at the cost of Kaberle and prospects. They get Tavares and the Islandes get Hedman as speculated if those rumors are true. Lightning land a good Dman and some decent prospects and get a mid 1st round pick.

Milan the God* 05-19-2009 03:33 PM

I think the Bolts would say no unless it was Schenn.

God 05-19-2009 03:38 PM

Take out Stralman and put in Schenn. Then this trade goes through.

Kencaid 05-19-2009 03:43 PM

i dont see toronto trading both schenna dn kaberle, but what if TO took back Malone in this deal? (like the one that was proposed awhile ago?). That way TB get a salary dump to equalize the salary they gained from Kabs, and TO get to keep schenn.

Edit: actually if they added malone i dont think toronto would drop strahlman, So MLSE would b giving up 7th, kabs and cash (basically) to get the first, NYI get 7th and 2nd, and TB get kabs, sharks 1st, cash and w/e else was in the original proposal

Malone is actually a good player, though.

So the Leafs give up a 19 year old already High 2nd/Low 1st pairing D, and an all star 1st pairing D who is considered to be one of the league's better bargains, to move up 6 spots? Really?

he is good, and i like his game, but in a cap system he is drastically overpaid for his role at nearly 5M a year (or w/e that contract is at) for several years. As everyone knows this is a major neg value. Not to mention the reports of Tampa being strapped for cash it would allow tampa to remain cap-neutral while gaining talent on the back end (loose a bad contract and get a very good one in return)

X0X0A0 05-19-2009 03:52 PM

Malone's contract goes down soon and there is no reason to trade him now after they just paid the most expensive year of his contract.
Not to mention Malone quickly became a fan favorite as well as with the ownership and his dad is head pro scout.

Besides, the Lecavalier trade will help out cash wise.

If it's Schenn scrap it. Kaberle, Schenn, AND 7th overall? Not worth it. I don't see why the Leafs can't stand pat. Nothing wrong with it.

MinnesotaFats 05-19-2009 03:57 PM

TB really gets shafted here.

Yes trading vinny away would solve their cap problems, but you wanna talk about not trading a fan fav? he is still the face of the franchise currently. And even though they paid the upper end of his contract this year at 6M, the 6 years at over 4M is still a lot of cash (i actually looked up the contract) for a very long time to come.

And Malone will become a fan fav where ever he plays. He plays a great style of hockey that any fan would love to have on their team, just not at that large of a cap hit.

JT 91 NYI* 05-19-2009 04:00 PM

Since Leaf fans like Tavares so much, I recommend they just become Islander fans and get a satellite dish. Then they can watch him 82 times this season.

The big difference is Malone was brought in by Koules, Vinny wasn't. Its almost 100% certain Lecavalier is traded and a lot of people are fine with it. With Malone and St. Louis taking over the marketing aspect the face of the franchise is now a 3 headed monster of St. Louis, Stamkos and Malone.

Being a leaf fan i don't really care if he is a leaf or not. Relying on one player to save your franchise is pure stupidity and shows weakness within the franchise. I feel any team can get some more quantity without sacraficing a ton of quality (JT is over rated, even though I love the guy) and still become sucessful. Smart drafting is the key to success, not neccisarily having #1 pick (but having high end picks never hurts :)

Darth Milbury 05-19-2009 04:09 PM

All this Tavares stuff aside, the Leafs look to be in great shape for this draft. Imagine a defense built around Schenn and Cowen.

Leafs arn't going to trade Tomas Kaberle, Luke Schenn, #7th pick for the #1 pick . The Leafs management laughed at the Tomas Kaberle + Luke Schenn idea ......

So you say hes overpaid yet you don't know the status of his contract...

Tampa's not going to trade #2 for a 30 year old Dmen (coming off a bad year) a late 1st and 2 ok-good prospects.

Your going to have to put a least Schenn instead of Kaberle.

Also the notion that Malone is a salary dump is odd. He scored 6 less points in 7 fewer games. (He also played with Stamkos instead of Malkin). If they thought he was worth the money last year don't see what changed.
