If anyone didn't know that the '04 draft sucked, then you're living under a rock

We drafted Radulov and Rinne that year. If Radulov would have stuck that makes out for a VERY successful draft IMO.

2 out of 11 picks is pretty sketchy.

3 Santorelli was in this draft too

I didn't like the Fugere, Meidl, or Moir picks to begin with. The picks after that were actually quite good. Santorelli - excellent pick there, Rinne - obviously the best pick for us in the draft, Kulyash could be a no. 5/6 in the NHL right now....its too bad we can't get him over to NA, Niskala is a 7/8th defenseman....not a bad pick for his position, Schaffer was a long term developmental defenseman that almost panned out. I am very pleased with the bottom half of the draft, hated the middle picks, and I loved the first pick. Its too bad Radulov is immature and has an idiot for an agent.

Santorelli hasn't proven himself beyond being an AHL scorer to this point, though.

Yet, the magic word in any draft pick, yet.

The other magic word with any draft pick is "never."

I don't think so. If you look back at most drafts, if you get 2 good players out of it, it's considered a success. Especially if the draft picks are impact players (Radulov, Rinne), 3 or more, it's a monster draft.

Russia issue aside, I think it was a successful draft. THe only draft we've had that beats it out is the 2003 draft, IMO. Even that draft has only yeilded two impact players so far.

2003- Suter, Weber, (Klein, Sulzer- yet to be proven)
2002- Only Upshall
2001- Hamhuis, Tootoo
2000- Only Harntell
1999- Erat, Hall, (Hutchison- fringe)
1998- Legwand, Skrastins, (Arkhipov)

2004-2008, to early to judge.
