Stamkos+ for NYI pick

To the NYI: Steven Stamkos, 2009 2nd round pick (TB)

To TBL:NYI 1st round pick 2009

What do you guys think?

Zubrus Coffee Maker 06-08-2009 09:55 PM

tampa would probably want to keep stamkos, just saying. he was very promising near the end of the year

Darth Milbury 06-08-2009 09:56 PM

Stamkos has upside that is higher than any prospect in this draft.

As an Islander fan, I'd love this deal.

Tampa would say no.

Ih8theislanders 06-08-2009 09:57 PM

tb gives up a potential franchise center and potential franchise d-man for a potential franchise center.

isles take this and run

grabo84 06-08-2009 09:57 PM

Stamkos is more valuable than the first overall this year. Tampa would have to be insane to trade him away.

2nd ROUND pick

the idea seems to be so Tampa can have Tavares and Hedman.
personally i would rather have Stamkos, Hedman, and whoever is picked with the 32nd overall.

False statement...

LeafsGetTavares* 06-08-2009 10:01 PM

Tavares and Hedman with TB's goalie prospects+ the results of trading Lecavier (if this trade happens) would be insane.

Nope, at least in my opinion. I wouldn't trade him for Tavares. I'd think about it for Hedman, but ultimately I wouldn't do it. Stamkos is pretty much the prototypical franchise centre in my books.

Really not that funny..
In terms of forwards, it's only JT and Duchene who you could arguably say has more. I don't think MD will be, and JT maybe. Stamkos was PHENOMENAL 2nd half of the season and the world championship. I have no problem whatsoever stating Stamkos will get 70 points next season. I can see Steven scoring more points then Jt will, but JT will score more goals (in their primes). Anyways, I think Stamkos and 2nd rounder for 1st overall is fair value

Not sure how it can be considered false. Its more of an opinion. Only the future will tell who might be correct.

AK 06-08-2009 10:05 PM

Tampa would absolutely not do this.

We're only talking of potential here.

Based on potential, Tavares could be Bossy #2.

CrosbyCrosby* 06-08-2009 10:16 PM

could be. stamkos has proven he's the real deal.

And Stamkos could be (insert random star) #2. I don't think there's anything wrong with thinking he has higher upside. He's still strengthening, and he has the speed and skill to be a dominant player in this league. Do you think Tavares could have performed like he did at the World Championships?

oilers_guy_eddie 06-08-2009 10:22 PM

Based on what little I've seen of Stamkos and what little I've seen of Tavares, I think I'm with Darth and Grabo84.

BadHammy* 06-08-2009 10:23 PM

5 words from Kanye West, no, no, no, no, no. Can you guess the song?

Stamkos played unbelivable but he also played against horrible teams mostly and was getting perfect one timer passes

The Puck 06-08-2009 10:24 PM

Another "what have you done for me lately" comparison.

Tavares and Hedman have more potential than Stamkos.

But Stamkos is the safer pick.

Kings man 4 life 06-08-2009 10:27 PM

I'd keep Stamkos hands down. Taveres+Hedman is equal to Stamkos and Hedman or damn close too. Waste of a 2nd round pick.

Disagree completely. Stamkos was getting higher projections than Tavvy is getting and for good reason.

HSF 06-08-2009 10:31 PM

NYI do this in a heartbeat

ppl need to stop overrating picks, Stamkos is proving himself and is worth more than JT /Hedman

Tampa shouldnt be adding a 2nd rounder

iPunch 06-08-2009 10:34 PM

Stamkos is and will be a better player than anyone drafted this year or last year.

The Naz 06-08-2009 10:36 PM

Not good enough for T-bay. Doesn't make any sense either, but how many trades on these boards do?
BTW, Stamkos will likely be a better all round player than Tavares. He may not score as many goals, but should get similar points, skates way better, and has a far superior 2 way game. I'd take Stamkos over Tavares anyday, he'll be a bigger difference maker. Theres just more to the game then scoring goals, and Stamkos showed that in junior. I don't ever recall Tavares dropping the mitts ever either.
