09/10 Avalanche Cap Numbers

Might as well start this thread again, since July 1st is right around the corner. This offseason will be pretty tough in terms of trying to guess who'll make the team and give us our 23 man roster cap hit, so the final number could vary slightly from what we have here.

I'll leave some of the prospects with less NHL games played in the list of prospects for now, and try to adjust it accordingly as moves are made throughout July, making it more clear as to how many spots may be open for the youngsters.

Just changed it, but my web browser's moving slow as molasses.

RTN 06-15-2009 10:52 AM

Joe Sakic?

Jori 06-15-2009 11:06 AM

Darcy Campbell signed with a team in Finland.

My God the Svatos, Tucker, Clark, and Liles contracts are so bad.

Golden Foppa 06-15-2009 11:53 AM

I like that we only have 4 guys signed through 2010-2011 right now. That gives us a lot of flexibility. As long as we don't add any stupid contracts like Tucker's this offseason we should be in great shape.

Couldnt have agreed more. We might be in good shape if the shermanator doesnt do n e thing stupid like signing Arnason to a 10 yr- $50 mill contract.

And he is actually a UFA (category VI)

Also, you're missing a ton of system players.
Take a look here for the list.
http://www.avalanchedb.com/capmat/10.htm

Also missing a few FA's. MacKenzie is unrestricted not RFA.
Willsie, Nycholat, and as mentioned Sakic.
Full list here.

Liles isn't that bad. He is slightly overpaid yes, but the gap between what he is worth and what he is getting is a lot smaller than the other players. I still would have preferred Streit over Liles yet, nothing can be done now.

Foppa2118 06-15-2009 03:03 PM

Updated, thanks guys. I rushed the thread a little last night, because I knew I wouldn't have much time to do it in the next couple weeks. If you see anything else, feel free to point it out.

Thanks Foppa2118! Now posters can look at salary cap implications as they come up with UFA and trade hallucinations.

Like Dimitri said , i have no problem with Liles . Now that JC is no longer in the picture , Liles could be a pleasant surprise under a real Dman Coach .

As for Svatos , if the guy could stay injury free , i have no problem with his Contrat .

Tucker and Clark ... do i need to go down that road again ? :shakehead

Colorado Avalanche 06-15-2009 03:34 PM

Wow imagine what we could get next trade deadline.

Foote, Salei, Clark etc.. Well they might be bad, but they are still very valuable players to playoff-teams. I think you guys will surprise what these guys could get us back at trade deadline. Uuh!

Defensemen are always hot stuff at trade deadline.

That was my main reason for doing this thread when I started it a few years ago. So hypothetical roster changes can be a little more realistic, when people are posting what they want the Avs to do.

Bonzai12 06-15-2009 07:28 PM

Just a couple comments.....

- Before you decide someone has a "bad" salary like a few people think Salei does....If you cut him who do you get to come in for cheaper to replace them? yeah it sucks and yeah the cap commitment is high, but you can't just call up all of Lake Erie. And other teams out there are not in the shape of the Avs. Salei could probably get $3M out on the open market, so it's not a bad contract.

- I hope they bring Willsie back. I didn't like him in his first stint with the Avs, but that's a guy who can provide depth and do it cheaply. I thought he looked pretty good actually when he played last season. I could care less about all the other UFAs.

Avs_19 06-15-2009 08:28 PM

Please don't bring Willsie back. He can't hit the freakin net! I have a better shot at hitting the net from the stands. And I know he isn't there to score but it was still pretty pathetic.

DJ54 06-15-2009 08:42 PM

I'd be ok with bringing Willsie back but only for him to play in LE and get a call up if we really get hit hard with injuries again.

Starrlinx 06-15-2009 09:14 PM

If Wilsie is playing regularly to begin with the team has more problems than his inability to hit the net.

Bonzai12 06-15-2009 10:22 PM

Gotta fill the holes somewhere.

Someone should make a creative thread of the $1K salary guys we should sign. lol. How pathetic.

He was absolutely brutal in the second half of the season. I don't want that guy on the Avs. He can be in Lake Erie providing veteran leadership to the kids, but that's about it. Please keep him off of the Avs.

Remember when he was considered our best prospect? I even seem to remember him scoring a big goal in the playoffs against the Wild in '03.

He was on the ice a lot with Forsberg and Drury against Detroit in 2002. In fact I believe he was on the ice for Forsberg's GW OT goal in game 5. (It's painful to remember how we blew that series. That and Dallas in 1999. We should have 4 Cups)

I don't ever recall him as a good looking prospect though.
