Wsh-pitt

Obviously this is one of the most unlikely trade proposals
ever but I'm just curious to know if you guys think I'm off
with the value and what not.

WSH

Semin
Backstrom

PIT

Malkin

El Maestro 06-17-2009 02:27 PM

Haha. A big no from a Caps fan...

kmillzy5 06-17-2009 02:28 PM

nope. . nope.

TimeZone 06-17-2009 02:28 PM

lol.....

kmillzy5 06-17-2009 02:29 PM

counter proposal, Crosby for Ovechkin. . . . c'mon someone had to say it. .:dunno:

AK 06-17-2009 02:29 PM

How about this:

To Pittsburgh:
Nothing

To Washington:
Nothing

These two teams aren't going to help each other, and Malkin and Ovechkin would not work together.

That's also not enough for the Pens' Art Ross and Conn Smythe winning franchise center who is 22 years old.

backs4mvp 06-17-2009 02:31 PM

No thanks.

90 point center + 35-45g/80-100point winger for one player? This isn't Lemieux or Gretzky.

I wouldn't take that headcase Semin.

Although I do like Backstrom alot, that one power move he did against the Rangers in the corner was awesome.

I wouldn't trade Malkin for those 2. Malkin can take over a game himself, these two can't.

Oh please let me laugh...

Backstrom can have 90pts/season, and Semin would have be close to the 100pts mark this season if he would have be healty.

vecens24 06-17-2009 02:34 PM

I don't think either team says yes to this.

Lim Ran 06-17-2009 02:35 PM

So OV/Backstrom/Semin is better than Malkin/Crosby?

See, I dont' know.

First of all, you may be ending up trading Backstrom for Malkin.

Semin has loads of potential, but still may flop out or never really realize his potential over a long period of time. More of a concern is that he could bolt to Russia at any point.

Then you have what - Backstrom for Malkin? No thanks.

Edit: Plus, the post above is right. These two teams will never make a major trade with each other.

He didn't say that he wasn't a great player, but he wouldn't bring more to the Caps than what Backstrom and Semin bring to it.

Thats what makes Malkin a Superstar. .

EroCaps 06-17-2009 02:58 PM

Really?

Two players capable of 90-100 pts for 1?

:shakehead

Lim Ran 06-17-2009 02:59 PM

When did that happen?

Edit: I love Backstrom and I admit Semin has crazy potential.

But you still don't trade Malkin for them. And I think you'd probably agree if things were the other way around.

Oh, and by the way, neither Semin nor Backstrom at 90-100 point guys... yet...

... and neither is Malkin.

Jaded-Fan 06-17-2009 03:02 PM

I wouldn't trade Malkin for Ovechkin.

Let's just say no and call it a day.

Malkin is not a 90 - 100 point guy?

106 and 113 points the last two years says otherwise:

180 pts >>>> 110 points

SkullSplitter 06-17-2009 03:11 PM

no
just no

The Dayvan Cowboy 06-17-2009 03:13 PM

I'm going to be honest here and say Pittsburgh loses that trade. Of course neither side even considers it to begin with.

What a worthless argument. In that case my counter is Petr Sykora, Ruslan Fedotenko, Miroslav Satan and Tyler Kennedy for Ovechkin. 156 points >>> 110 points.

Malkin had 113 points btw, it was Ovechkin with the 110.

Players who can put up 80 - 90 points are a dime a dozen. The true elites are much rarer. Most think that Malkin is in a tier with two others and then there is a drop to the next teir. That is how rare. Adding numbers together and thinking that you are replacing a true elite with a couple of lesser players misses the point entirely. A couple of lesser players replacing an elite generational player makes you like most of the other teams in the league. The math may look good on paper but does not work out in real life.

eXile59 06-17-2009 03:26 PM

Its not like Malkin just helped the Pens win a cup when guys like Semin were having "nothing special" performances.
