I can see Dawes becoming a Brian Gionta or if we are really lucky into Martin St. Louis.

Another Marty would be like hitting the lottery, but i'll take a Gionta anyday.

Btw, Welcome aboard 28 :D

Tomas or Larmer or Domi. Take your pick.

Fletch 03-26-2004 01:58 PM

That's good news...

good luck to him. Hopefully he shows something (and if he doesn't, I'm sure he'll go back and work harder).

newf 03-26-2004 02:09 PM

isn't it odd that the rangers make a release about what they expect to happen? why don't they wait until he's signed, sealed and delivered?

Edge 03-26-2004 02:14 PM

well it probably means they have an agreement in place, it just isnt official yet.

newf 03-26-2004 02:18 PM

okay, but still why not wait until its official? it just seems odd. and there's been enough stupid mistakes in the past few years by other teams that really looked unprofessional because they didn't wait. they kyle wanvig "trade" between boston and the leafs was announced through the bruins website before they had to revoke it because the trade never went through. no big deal, though

Gionta himself could end up like St. Louis, he's a good 3 or 4 years younger than St. Louis and he's putting up decent numbers (In goals at the very least, he has 20)on a defensively oriented (albeit good) team. Take a look at their scoring histories:

Gionta (Born January 1979):

1995-96 Niagara MTJHL 51 47 44 91 59
1996-97 Niagara MTJHL 50 57 70 127 101
1997-98 Boston College H.E. 40 30 32 62 44
1998-99 Boston College H.E. 39 27 33 60 46
1999-2000 Boston College H.E. 42 33 23 56 66
2000-01 Boston College H.E. 43 33 21 54 47
2001-02 Albany River Rats AHL 39 9 16 25 18
2001-02 New-Jersey Devils NHL 33 4 7 11 8
2002-03 New-Jersey Devils NHL 58 12 13 25 23
2003-04 New-Jersey Devils NHL 70 20 7 27 32

St. Louis (Born June 1975):

1992-93 Hawkesbury OCJHL 31 37 50 87 70
1993-94 U. of Vermont ECAC 33 15 36 51 24
1994-95 U. of Vermont ECAC 35 23 48 71 36
1995-96 U. of Vermont ECAC 35 29 56 85 38
1996-97 U. of Vermont ECAC 36 24 36 60 65
1997-98 Cleveland IHL 56 16 34 50 24
1997-98 Saint John AHL 25 15 11 26 20
1998-99 Saint John AHL 53 28 34 62 30
1999-2000 Saint John AHL 17 15 11 26 14
1999-00 Calgary Flames NHL 56 3 15 18 22
2000-01 Tampa-Bay Lightning NHL 78 18 22 40 12
2001-02 Tampa-Bay Lightning NHL 53 16 19 35 20
2002-03 Tampa-Bay Lightning NHL 82 33 37 70 32 *11 7 5 12 0
2003-04 Tampa-Bay Lightning NHL 78 35 54 89 24

St. Louis also played with a guy named Eric Perrin (In TB's organisation now) who was dynamite offensively, where as Gionta was basically far and away the best scorer for BC. Gionta has a shot to become a force, despite his small size.

Well there isnt a deadline so i would guess even if they fine tune it there probably won't be a hold up.

The Rangers have changed their policies over the past few years.

Five years ago you'd never see capsules on potential draft picks because there was a fear you'd let something slip.

Sometimes the best answer i can give for this teams media relations is "because they felt like it".

Not the best answer to give, but the only one i can really offer. :)
