TOR-LA-BOS idea

How would fans feel about this

LA-Kessel
TOR- 5th overall and Boston 3rd in 2009
BOST-Kaberle and LA 3rd in 2010

TOR can then package the 5th, 7th and 3rd rder for #2 overall?

etherialone 06-26-2009 02:14 PM

Super great if you are a TO fan, for the kings it's a MAJOR hosing.

Really? IMO LA makes out great. They can probably sign Kessel to a 5yr $25M deal and he brings 35-50 goals a season

Boba Fettuccine 06-26-2009 02:25 PM

Hell no

5th overall and a 3rd for Kessel?

Really? You wouldn't do this? I would make this deal in no time flat. Kessel was a 5th overall selection AND scored 36 goals last year. So basically we're trading a 3rd round pick next year to instantly develop our 5th overall this year into a 30 goal scorer.

What is not to like about this deal?

jimmy1100 06-26-2009 02:44 PM

With a few more minutes to think about it, I'd even throw in a mid-level prospect or a late round choice this year too.

I cannot fathom one reason this deal is bad for LA. We get a goal-scorer, in the right age group, who is still young enough that he's not going to cost Gaborik/Hossa/Havlat money. He's a PPG player so far in the playoffs. What's not to like?

Yeah i would make this deal. we keep fro and jj and we add kessel (goal scorer) and can probably sign hiim for a better price then Gab or Heatley. Plus he is young and still has untapped talent.

Kessel Kopi Brown
Fro Stoll Williams

That looks good to me

The bad is he is a RFA and may opt to go FA next year.

For a split second I crossed my eyes and thought the title said "TEH WORST idea" So I clicked on it...Yep sometimes first impressions are correct.

AMEN!!! Where's DL? Get him on the phone and find out:

1) What is Kessel looking for $$$-wise?
2) Would Bos/Tor make this deal?

Boston is already giving up what was rumored AND Toronto is getting exactly what they want. WORST case scenario, Toronto ends up with Schenn/Cowen or Schenn/MSP.

Granted, I did not mention it specifically, this deal would be predicated on us agreeing to terms with Kessel prior to making the deal. That means it'd be a rush job to agree to terms, but I'd still at least see what Kessel is looking for in the $$$ department.

Please explain...

How much would Kessel have to want for this to become a bad idea? If Kessel signs for less than $5.0m/yr cap hit, this seems like a no-brainer to me.

Kurrilino 06-26-2009 02:55 PM

Big NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

because Kessel would know what we lost because of the trade...
He could ask what ever he want and we have to sign that to not look Stupid..........

Any GM who gives away a 1st rounder for the rights to anyone is ********...........

What about

Calder + 32nd for Toronto 7th

And when the Kings sign Gaborik!!! Look at our top 3 lines.

Gaborik/Kopitar/Brown
Frolov/Stoll/Kessel
Simmonds/Handzus/Williams

At first I didn't like this proposal, but like you and after I checked into what Kessel brings - what's not to like?? I'd do this immediately.

but... why would Boston even consider this??

Chruceg 06-26-2009 03:13 PM

Kessel is a RW. No way the Kings trade such a valuable pick to trade into their area of strength.

Not sure on specific reasons, but TSN reported that BOS had offered Kessel + a non-1st rd pick for Kaberle. This deal just mixes the Kings in as well and gets TOR a lot closer to what they want (Schenn or the opportunity to trade up for Tavares).

I thought he was a center. I wonder if every played LW for Bos, or if we could switch Williams to LW

Williams Kopi Kessel
Fro Stoll Brown

Kingjordan 06-26-2009 03:37 PM

How old is Kessel

He's never played center and has only played a handful of games at LW. I watch about 2/3 of the Bruins games a year.

It was very much and up-and-down season for Kessel in '08-09. He came out of the gate on fire and was one of the NHL's best skaters. Then a case of mono settled in and derailed Kessel's season. He wasn't as effective of a scorer until very late in the year. He still finished with a career-high 60 points and plus-23 rating. Kessel also lived up to all the hype that followed him early in his career. Still, it looks as though he is going to miss the beginning of the 2009-10 season..

Kessel still iffy for start of season: The Sports Xchange reports RW Phil Kessel, the Bruins' leading goal scorer (36) in 2008-09, underwent surgery to repair rotator cuff and labrum tears and is not expected to be ready for the start of next season.
(Updated 06/18/2009).

while this is a fantasy report, it's highly accurate.

i love kessel with the Bs, but he's been the subject of trade rumors since before the trading deadline.

There is a HUGE difference in trading for an UFA and a RFA!
