New RFA Compensation Thresholds - Average League Salary growth - Escrow
I posted this on the Sharks board - but it is worthy of discussion here.
If Stricklands numbers are correct - and Average league Salary did increase by 15% from '07-'08 to '08-'09 while HRR and the cap remained flat - then the players will end up giving back a big chunk through escrow this past year.

Over $994,433 to $1,506,717 3rd Round Pick
Over $1,506,717 to $3,013,433 2nd Round Pick
Over $3,013,433 to $4,520,150 1st, 3rd
Over $4,520,150 to $6,026,867 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Over $6,026,867 to $7,533,584 (2) 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Over $7,533,584 (4) 1st Round Picks
Note that the compensation levels are NOT linked to the cap (which was basically flat) but to the yr-to-yr %-age increase in Average League Salary - which did increase significantly from '07-'08 to '08-'09.
For comparison - here are the thresholds from this past season:
Amount - Compensation Due
$863,156 or less - None
$863,156 - $1,307,811 - 3rd round pick
$1,307,811 - $2,615,623 - 2nd round pick
$2,615,623 - $3,923,434 - 1st and 3rd round pick
$3,923,434 - $5,231,246 - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round pick
$5,231,246 - $6,539,061 - Two 1st's, one 2nd, one 3rd round pick
$6,539,061 or more Four 1st round picks
This back calculates to a 15.2% increase in Average League Salary from '07-'08 to '08-'09.
