Better than the $3.6 mil reported earlier but still a bit much for me, and I'm a big Bolland fan.

The Hawks will figure something out, though.

brtriad 06-29-2009 05:35 PM

As that guy said, it's better than 3.6 reported. I'm very happy with the contract.

DAkings20 06-29-2009 05:37 PM

seems like a bit much too me.

The Scouting Report 06-29-2009 05:40 PM

Great deal for the Hawks. 23 years old and will likely be a 50-60 point guy who can play in all situations, seems like a no brainer.

Dominic Roussel 06-29-2009 05:40 PM

Seems like a bit much considering his stats.

WTFMAN99 06-29-2009 05:40 PM

Too much too soon.

Alot of people said that when the Wings signed Filppula & Kronwall . I think this is a signing based on what he's going to do , not on what he's done.

Hawks are ****ed when they have to resign Kane, Toews, Keith, Ladd next offseason. Already sitting at 33.76M with 7 forwards, 4D-men, 1G signed..Still need to re-sign key RFA's Versteeg, Barker and UFA's Pahlsson and Havlat, and still leavel ong term room for the 4 aforementioned coming up..

Hanta Yo 06-29-2009 05:46 PM

Too early for this player to show hes worth that contract. Either hell earn it(which im guessing) or not. Cap hit is turning me off just because of Chicagos situation but i think on any team thats reasonable cap hit for him.

Pahlsson is probably gone. Same with Havlat. You realize the cap hit for Toews and Kane is already pretty big because of their bonuses' right? They might lose one of Barker and Keith...but thats about it.

danishh 06-29-2009 05:49 PM

Who killed the electric car second contract?

Leafidelity 06-29-2009 05:49 PM

Works for me. Could help the Leafs sign Grabovski should he go to arbitration.

I remember hearing about there problem last week on HNIC Radio on Sirius, and man they were right on, one off-season signing could possibly dampen the good feeling they had this past season when all those studs become RFA's

FLYLine24 06-29-2009 05:51 PM

Fair price.

This one or 2 seasons it might seem like too much, but on his 3rd-5th years of his contract, 3.3M should look very nice.

Kane is at 3.75 and Toews 2.8. Its not as bad as people think.

Barker was at 2.442 this season... signing him to approx. 3.5 or so is just a 1 million dollar increase

Right. Havlat and Versteeg are the two to watch. With Havlat and Khabi gone, we could likely sign all our RFA's this offseason and have the room to give raises to Kane, Toews, Keith, and Ladd next season.

VelvetJones 06-29-2009 06:01 PM

That's too much for him. I will say that a lot over the next week.

Both will likely increase quite a bit, to about 5.5M+ for each long term. Factor in Ladd who will make at least as much as Bolland at 3.3M and Keith who is considered a top 10 D-man will go for at least 5M+ as well.

That's an increase of at least 21M-3.725-2.8-1.55-1.45 = 11.475M pay roll increase on top of the around 33.76M already commited, and the contracts to Barker(2.7M cap hit right now) and Versteeg(.491M cap hit right now).

Also consider I'm being nice with the contracts to Kane, Toews, Keith and Bolland..What's stopping Kane or Toews from going for Kopitar (6.8M) or Statsny (6.6M) money? Or Keith from going after #1 D money, Campbell (7.2M) or Redden (6.5M) or Chara (7.5M) or Boyle (6.6M) or Lidstrom (7.45M) or Rafalski (6M)? Or what if Ladd keeps developing further, hits the 60-65pt mark, goes for 4-4.5M?

Brian Burke was 100% correct on this issue.

I've seen almost every game Bolland has played in the NHL, and I am really happy with this contract as a Hawks fan. Who exactly would we get to play second line center that would be better and cheaper? Bolland only has like 100 NHL games under his belt and he is already one of our go-to guys, especially in shutdown situations. He is just starting to get some 2nd unit PP time and is starting to do well there too.

I would love to hear what you critics would suggest that is a better option for Chicago than signing Bolland at this price as a second line center.

i'm not sure if it was lowe who did it or even wang with the Dipi contract or that it just happened gradually over time, but Burke was right about the impact this had.

There used to be a definite salary structure in the NHL. Players had to earn the right to get big-money contracts. Now, with a lower UFA age and the threat of offersheets, the second contract is gone. Once one GM offers big money on a second contract, all of a sudden other players have comparables that they can look at, and it just spiralled out of control from there.
