Excellent term and cap hit. Gillis strikes again.

Good to see you guys back!

MisterD 07-01-2009 10:18 AM

Is that inline with what most were hoping for?

snepsts27 07-01-2009 10:18 AM

I think the Sedins & JP Barry win this round.

Passthedonuts 07-01-2009 10:18 AM

Well that was close.

Canucker 07-01-2009 10:19 AM

Glad to have them back, not sure I'm too happy about the price tag however. Hope it doesn't hancuff us too badly.

Dado 07-01-2009 10:19 AM

Welcome back to last season, everybody!

:)

YogiCanucks 07-01-2009 10:19 AM

Ha, funny how at the start of the season. 5 Million was 'good' and we laughed at them asking (or JP Barry asking) for 6-7 million.

Askel 07-01-2009 10:19 AM

Personally I was hoping for closer to 5.5.

Junius 07-01-2009 10:19 AM

Great news.

Velociraptor 07-01-2009 10:20 AM

Thank god, As much as I hate them when they don't perform in clutch decisions. I don't think I can part with them :).

Then they had another injury free season and went PPG in the playoffs. Things change.

MisterD 07-01-2009 10:20 AM

What's Vancouver's Cap Numbers with them signed, and how many more players do they need to sign yet?

kanuck87 07-01-2009 10:21 AM

If we dont come away with another legit top-6 forward, I am going to be pissed. It doesnt seem like now we will be able to sign either Cammalleri, Hossa or Gaborik. Our offense is poised to be league average for the next few seasons.

Bim Jenning 07-01-2009 10:21 AM

Not excited. We are out of the running for other impact UFA's. This is a very Nonis-esque move. We go into next season with the same mediocre defense.

If that means another division title, sounds good to me.

Macke* 07-01-2009 10:21 AM

:shakehead

6.1 million a year?

KDizzle 07-01-2009 10:21 AM

So we have 10.8 million to spend on 8 players

Don't forget how Daniel Sedin "laughed" when it was suggested that they were asking for $6.5-$7 million a year. Well, it looks like that's exactly what their bargaining position was since it took until the 11th hour just to get them to sign for $6.1 million.

snepsts27 07-01-2009 10:21 AM

This leaves the Canucks with approx 4 million in cap space to sign Cammilarri, after filling all the other the holes

Leadfoot 07-01-2009 10:22 AM

If Gillis increased the term by say, two years, I wonder if he could have gotten them for somewhere around 5.5 each. Regardless, I'm glad they're back.

Burke's Evil Spirit 07-01-2009 10:22 AM

Abso****inglutely worth it! Are you guys seeing this market? Scott Gomez makes $1.2 million more than either Sedin, scores less, is one-dimensional, and gets decent trade value from Montreal.

Take this deal and run.

Now get a ****ing defenseman, Gillis.

Peter Griffin 07-01-2009 10:22 AM

About $100K more than I wanted, but when it's a five year deal, this is a steal for the Canucks IMO. Now that the top line is taken care of, lets work on the defense.

lol. This is what I would guess 90% of GM's would do. I don't see how resigning your top producers who show no sign of slowing down for a relatively low term is 'Nonis-esque'.
