And according to Dany Dubé on CKAC, they're also in talks with Gionta.

Ludo 07-01-2009 12:10 PM

Any of the three would make my day.

hototogisu 07-01-2009 12:10 PM

Anyone want to bet the Habs go 0-for-3 on those?

Gainey's not sleeping which is a good sign.

Highly doubt it, they have tons of cap-room (still) and it's the Montreal Canadiens.

We sure have the biggest bunch of whiners here in Montreal :shakehead

I think we should put AD in water in Montreal

That could mean so many different things these days.

Yet the highest profile free agent signings in the team's history are:

Roman Hamrlik
Sergei Samsonov
Yannic Perreault

If Gainey can convince a high-profile free agent to sign in Montreal, I'll be surprised. It just hasn't been a viable route for the team to acquire players.

Madevilz 07-01-2009 12:18 PM

isn't Gainey aware that without Komisarek, we have a big hole to fill?

wake up, we need a D!!!

You say "it's the Montreal Canadiens" like we have a reputation for attracting big name free agents.

Who is the biggest UFA Montreal has signed in recent years? Hamrlik? Samsonov?

Forgive me for being skeptical but enough Hab fans have heard this story before that we're getting used to being July 1 bridesmaids.

Where have you been the last 5 years...

Briere
Elias
Arnott
Souray
Hossa
Sundin
Smyth
...

They all received big offers from Montreal but none of them are with the team.

GoodKiwi 07-01-2009 12:20 PM

We have too much cap space not to attract anyone. I think Havlat would be a nice plan C and is likely to sign with us shall we strike out on both Hossa and Gaborik.

That's not quite on the same level, considering we traded for him beforehand and re-signed him.

You forgot Shanahan and Brett Hull.

ChiGuySez 07-01-2009 12:23 PM

Hmmm. Lang was a pretty good acquisition from Chicago... until he uh went down for the year.

Just sayin.

Sign one of the four you mentioned and bring back Saku and I will be happy then go get a defensemento take Komisareks place. Its good that Gainey is taking a nap at least thats a positive there. We dont sign many big ticket free agents maybe this year it will change lets hope otherwise this will be a long year
