That is right. Same thing was done with Oduya last year by Lou.

This is why he's going to the Hall of Fame.

On a more serious note, it appears as though Lou didn't give him a qualifying offer to save a whopping $60k. He did the same thing to Oduya a couple years ago.

its cheap. But you know, maybe this is $$ that can be thrown at another tweener type, with more potential.

Or even, outside the cap.... $60k is $60k. Save money where you can

Except Lou signed Andy for 2 years at 725k and 750k... He ended up paying 5k more this year than the qualifying offer...

TheDevilMadeMe 07-01-2009 01:18 PM

But he was re-signed for higher than his qualifying offer would have been. I don't get it.

Sometimes I wonder if Lou is losing it.

There could be more details to the deal.. I'm sure Lou will address the matter

Did Greene have abitration rights?

If so Greene could have not signed the qualifying offer and elected for arbitration and gotten higher than the $725K he got.

I don't know. I'm just throwing something out there.

MoonDragn 07-01-2009 01:33 PM

My feeling is Lou already had pretty much the whole deal set up, just didn't have time to make that qualifying offer because he was busy signing us a coach ;)

Ah, "The NYR children of the corn", as Trottier said.

Mike Farkas 07-01-2009 02:30 PM

$725,000 the first year, $750,000 in the second year for Greene...
