LOL, that would be brutal. Not like Bettman would enforce that though, probably just fine the organization.

My guess is, that this is major league sensationalism by TSN and that the Hawks will be fine.

Chicago tendered qualifying offers to several key players this week, including Chris Versteeg, Cam Barker, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Aaron Johnson and Troy Brouwer, however the investigation underway is to determiner whether the qualifying offers were filed correctly.

If not, there is the remote possibility the qualifying offers could be ruled invalid and the players listed above, conceivably, could be deemed unrestricted free agents because of the blunder.

Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Aaron Johnson and Troy Brouwer could potentially be UFA

Report: Madden was actually signed for 25M a year for 20 years.

dre2112 07-03-2009 06:35 PM

RangerBoy 07-03-2009 06:37 PM

Thought it was Hossa's contract structure

"There are few details, but one source says the players involved didn't receive the necessary notification of the offers."

They run a tight ship there in Chicago.

Eager would look good in an Avs jersey. ;)

Respect Your Edler 07-03-2009 06:38 PM

That would be pretty funny if they were all UFAs now.

Ace88* 07-03-2009 06:39 PM

I seriously hope to god that Versteeg and Barker hit UFA

"Tallon says fax copies of the offers were sent to the league, so he doesn't anticipate any significant fall out."

Nothing to see here...
too bad...

to be fair, he says there is nothing.

the NHLPA seems to be the group crying foul here.

we need more drama! Somebody kick a puppy!

Inker 07-03-2009 06:41 PM

The PA will push very hard to get them all to UFA status. Might have a case depending on how exactly the CBA is worded. Fax to the league isn't quite the same as the players receiving the offer

I don't. As much as I'd love them on the Island (they wouldn't come anyway), it'd really suck to see a team like that on the rise lose their good young players. Especially for the fans.

State of Hockey 07-03-2009 06:42 PM

Created drama. No real story here.

Sources tell TSN the NHL and the NHLPA are investigating what might have been an enormous mistake by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Chicago tendered qualifying offers to several key players this week, including Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Aaron Johnson and Troy Brouwer, however the investigation underway is to determiner whether the qualifying offers were filed correctly.

If not, there is the remote possibility the qualifying offers could be ruled invalid and the players listed above, conceivably, could be deemed unrestricted free agents because of the blunder.

Well that could be potentially hilarious.

No kidding. Can't go from 4 to 1, that's not allowed. Gotta do 4 - 2 - 1.

TML g u n n e R s* 07-03-2009 06:43 PM

how long till they hit ufa

Analyzer* 07-03-2009 06:44 PM

The league will force Chicago to trade Barker to the habs for cheap and that will be it.

Probably just some fines.

You dont understand the 50% rule

FLYLine24 07-03-2009 06:44 PM

Meh, no way the NHL would let them all become UFA's and royally screw the Hawks unless they could prove the Hawks intentionally messed up on the offers, which im sure they didnt.

The problem will get fixed(if there was one), and everything will be normal.
