Development Camp 2009

Was wondering if anybody is going, maybe we could get some pictures and feedback on who is BRINGING IT at the camp.

treize_kushrenada 07-09-2009 05:00 PM

ill be going there tom. i only have a digicam. not one of those fancy shmancy extra high tech cameras some people have. i just have a regular digicam and ill try to post pics. i just dont know how to. and also i will try to post whos who that are there and what their jersey #'s are. also, ill try to make my summary of whos "bringing it" and whos not.

FrozenRoyalty 07-09-2009 06:10 PM

Can't make it on Friday...gotta work at the day job...but I will be there Saturday and Sunday and will get as many interviews as I can. Look for stories and raw audio interviews on Frozen Royalty starting late Saturday night or on Sunday...depends on when I can get to it all.

Thanks for the info...I wish it wasnt so early... i live in the Valley and it would take at least an hour to get out there during rush hour... maybe ill try and head out there over the weekend.

have any of you been to one of these? Is it a good time?

Just go on one of the weekend days if you can. Traffic won't be bad.

It's definitely fun to go to, even if you just go for an hour or so. Apparently this year's development camp is going to be much more structured than it has been in years past (to quote DL, they eliminated a lot of "the hockey school crap") so it should be a good test for the youth.

I would love to get a chance to see any Kings games or development camps The closest NHL game I can get to see this year is a preseason game between Ottawa and the Panthers. Other than that, the closest team to me is the Canadiens (about a 15-17 hr drive away).

Do what I can on sunday for pictures, but using these digital cameras are easy and maddening at the same time ....used mine for work once and got excellent pictures of my feet and the sky about six or seven times till I figured out you can't move for about five seconds with the damn things........I know there high tech and that but doesn' remind you of the old days when they had to wait for the flash to go off to get the pictures, the more things change the more they remain the same

What exactly does that mean? I figured that the development camp would be "hockey school." If they're not teaching them how they want them to play then what are they doing?

Thanks for the update. Don't know Maxwell, but I liked watching Shutron in the memorial cup. Tough dude.

I don't think DL means the style of hockey they are teaching but more like the attitude and focus. Probably not so much that they are changing the way they do it but rather the guys doing have a better handle on it and will come in with a more professional and intense attitude, where as it sounds like in the past they were a little more lacksadasical and discombobulated running the thing, which isn't really conducive to a professional atmosphere.

That's what I got from DL's talk about it anyways.

VictoryRose 07-09-2009 09:16 PM

Last year they had class time/mentorship stuff off the ice w/ Brown to sort of get guys on the right track for what's expected out of someone that the Kings own the rights to. I think they did a better job laying that out to prospects in Jrs and importantly, the kids in Manchester. If you look at that roster, a lot of these guys know each other already. less talk, more action. get down to it.

Nice to see Shutron, he was impressive at the Mem Cup.

"Emerson (will be) exclusively overseeing the development camp... this year will now be the way I envisioned development camps. We ran too much hockey school crap in the last couple of years but this one will be at the level I envisioned when I got here."

It's about 46 minutes, 40 seconds in. Audio interview here: http://frozenroyalty.net/2009/06/29/...ding-a-winner/

I listened to the interview and I agree that they are going to do it the way they want. I'm just confused as to what they are actually going to be doing? Does that make sense? Is it going to be like VictoryRose said where there is more "class" time with Brown about what is expected of the players?

And JDM,

I have always been under the impression that the development camp was specifically designed to find the players weaknesses and then have them work on their weaknesses over the summer and at the beginning of the next season.

I don't know if anybody knows and when the re-caps come in we'll all find out. I'm just confused as to what they are trying to accomplish.

That's what I'm hoping for... the time to get serious is right now.

TwzKing 07-10-2009 12:22 PM

who is 34 in red anyone know...?

saintsnsoldiers 07-10-2009 01:07 PM

Anybody standing out so far, Im curious about Braun.

TonySCV 07-10-2009 01:07 PM

I have yet to find a roster online.

According to Hammond there's a large crowd on hand there this morning - ~150 or so. Everyone ditched work! ;)

Telos 07-10-2009 01:13 PM

He also says that Voynov is doing drills and not playing due to injury, but more importantly that Loktionov isn't there yet. :( He is probably one of the ones that everyone is most interested in. Need to await for the reason he missed the camp today.
