The National Hockey League has designated Wednesday, March 3 as the 2010 trade deadline, Sportsnet has learned.

The NHL is closing for a two week period in February to allow their stars to compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics, and the deadline is set for three days after the Games conclude in Vancouver. Link

think the olympics will have any value on the players traded at the deadline?

TheOtherSide 08-05-2009 01:04 AM

so it seems i will have a very bad cold on march 3rd...

Don't know if it's a good/bad thing that this is announced...

Cappo40* 08-05-2009 01:15 AM

I think it should be atleast a week after the Olympics, rather than just 3 days..Might not be enough time for things to happen in quantity, but who knows..

TheKingSlayer 08-05-2009 01:36 AM

A full 82 game schedule is still being played right? that's the reason they are starting the season so early was so they could fit in all of them as well as the Olympics i assume

well this will give g.m's a ton of extra relaxed time to set deals in motion. Could be a very busy deadline thanks to the olympics.

If I recall correctly, there was a freeze during the Olympics, so I'd imagine we might actually see some creativity, and 3 way deals and such.

Unless there is an injury i don't think it will effect the value of the players involved.

It will be like a 2 week mini summer, with a billion rumors flying around the Trade Rumor and Free Agent Board :scared:

Looks like I will not be attending my single class that day

I always book it off. I don't hide why I'm taking certain days off. My boss knows, I take off the trade deadline, the draft, and July 1st.:)

agreed, my manager is a hockey fanatic, last year i told him i'm taking a personal day on the last trade deadline... his response? "ya, i'll be watching the trade deadline too". I actually came in on draft day to watch the draft with my manager and shift manager. July 1st i asked for an afternoon shift... all the big deals are usually done by 4:00

this will be my upcoming 9th in a row i've taken off. Living in the U.S. I still have to explain why it's so important to be off this day to most of my coworkers.:yo:
