Do you miss JFJ?

I can't say I do. I really like Burke and have a lot of confidence in him. I have to say though: damn those were some entertaining days (from a management standpoint). JFJ's moves always seemed to be an exercise in what not to do as an NHL GM. I don't believe in JFJ's innocence either. I think he had powers to shape his team like he did. I wasn't posting on HFBoards when everything went down. Where you at least a little entertained by his incompetence?

fourofakindfowl 08-05-2009 10:16 AM

I found him comical. He looks like a falcon.

Anthrax442 08-05-2009 10:21 AM

I can neither confirm nor deny if I miss him or not

BooRadley 08-05-2009 10:23 AM

I enjoyed the Fan590's imitations of him on Landry and Stellick's morning show.

Patty Lee 08-05-2009 10:23 AM

seriously?

LeafErikson* 08-05-2009 10:27 AM

He had the personality of a rock. And couldn't build a winner. Had he been able to build this team through the draft, like he wanted, perhaps we would have a different view on him. Given his mandate of trying to make the playoffs, he failed miserably.

No, I don't miss him. Seems like a rather ridiculous question to be honest. I love the management team we have in now.

I'll trade you a Wayne Gretzky rookie card for that Zarley Zalapski you got there...

do u have an audio link for that?

Anthrax442 08-05-2009 10:31 AM

He was a wrong person that got put in an impossible position. Remember the "Search committee". I was a joke. I blame it all on Peddie, not JFJ.

The management team has a fairly large representation of people that Ferguson brought in to the organization.

EazyB97 08-05-2009 10:39 AM

How can anyone miss him when he's discussed on a daily basis here?

caribouPINE 08-05-2009 10:42 AM

JFJ took 10 years off my life

He wasn't completely incompetent.

Ha, I know. Some people just love to hold onto the past.

I agree, even once in a while now they'll throw one in there.

I'll see if I can find one when I get home from work - no guarantees - I don't know if they have any of their audio archived. Trust me, they're funny as hell!

I think its the producer of the show that does his voice, but its pretty bang on.

I remember the last one I heard he kept on going on about the San Jose Sharks. He kept pronouncing them the "San Joe-say Sharks". On the other end, I think it was Landry who tried to correct the imitating JFJ by saying its pronounced "San Ho-say Sharks". His rebuttal was something like, "my name isn't Hohn Fegurson Hunior", it's John Ferguson Junior and he kept on going on about that. I almost crashed when I heard that. It's obviously not as funny if I try to explain the joke.

Like any GM in the league, he was able to accomplish some good, some not so good. To say he did nothing positive for the organization durring his tenure is bias, and not true. Can't say i miss him, but I do think he is a very inteligent man, and a class act to boot. Met him once, seemed friendly enough, and took the time to chat.

I miss JFJ in the exact same sense that Letterman/Conan/Leno/etc missed George Bush after his term was over.

Delayed Offside 08-05-2009 10:53 AM

JFJ's interviews have been much better since he got fired... he was on OTR talking about the draft and he just seemed so relaxed...

it just never seemed like he was the guy in control...

hard to see the good he did. What moves did you like?

of all the bad things he did i would say his building of The Legion of Fume (Lindros, Sundin, Allison--yes I know they never played on a line together) during the post lockout era was the worst.

TheTotalPackage 08-05-2009 10:56 AM

He was way in over his head who was a poor talent evaluator and his trading resume was simply disastrous. He set this team back a good three years at least.

Then I guess that it is kind of ironic that Fletcher and Burke left Ferguson's amateur scouting department almost untouched.

His drafting was good, Stralman was a great pick at where he was selected, late picks like Dido, Stalberg, Mitchell look like they could be good players. Tlusty/Kulemin could be good. Signing Kaberle, and Kubina were good moves as was Gill. Lindros and Allison were signed to one year cheap deals, no harm no foul. Don't want to get into a debate, just my thoughts. Rugsegger, Holzer, Gunnarson maybe Mikus are late round picks that may just make it.
