Rangers Prospect #17

Nigel Williams, the #3 prospect on the Avalanche, came in at #16 on the Rangers. I think this is in large part because he's unknown to our fans.

Heineken was added to this round.

Looks like our 16-20 will likely consist of mostly high-risk, good-return prospects. If they make it, they should be top-4 D or top-6 F. If one out of five makes it, that's nice. If two make it, we'll be in great shape.

TOP PROSPECTS

1. Artem Anisimov
2. Evgeny Grachev
3. Michael Del Zotto
4. Bobby Sanguinetti
5. Ryan McDonagh
6. Derek Stepan
7. Matt Gilroy
8. Chris Kreider
9. Michael Sauer
10. Ethan Werek

SECOND-TIER PROSPECTS

11. Tomas Kundratek
12. Dane Byers
13. Ryan Bourque
14. Brian Boyle
15. Corey Potter
16. Nigel Williams

Heikkene, add Ocho Cinco already!

In respect to Williams I would take all of Valentenko, Heikkinen and Dupont over him.
It's not to say he doesn't have equal talent but he seems to have some issues that the others don't and to be honest I think Valentenko's upside is higher anyway.

So I went with him. Add Weise.

RangerFan10 08-05-2009 04:02 PM

Heikkenen, add Wiikman

Fitzy 08-05-2009 04:36 PM

Dupont over Kveton = :help:

jniklast 08-05-2009 04:36 PM

kveton, add johnson

I voted for Kveton this round, but I think both are solid prospects. Dupont is a big strong kid. He isn't the fastest skater, but decent and tough to knock off his feet, which allows him to score garbage goals. Excellent body-checker too.

I see him as a poor man's Adam Graves. I really think he'll overperform throughout his career.

I don't think too many people expected him to have more than half a point per game in the AHL at the age of 21.

If he can improve this year, I think he will be ready for the NHL in 2010-11.

I think Nigel's only issue is hockey sense. If he can improve it, he has all the tools to be a very good second pairing defenseman. I really think that if we could get a good defense ass. coach, he'd succeed.

Kveton please :help: a brother out

The Perfect Paradox 08-05-2009 05:44 PM

Heikkinen. Add Weise.

bmoak 08-05-2009 05:55 PM

Tank. Add Johnson

I am surprised there's so little love for Doyle. He should definitely be in the teens. Most teams would have him in the top 10.

Thefalkon 08-05-2009 06:27 PM

Heikkenen, add Zaborsky.

Or maybe it's the fact that the Avalanche dumped him for Fahey, a minor league journeyman coming off an awful year.

I think online prospect ratings might just carry a little less weight than actual NHL transactions.

BrooklynRangersFan 08-05-2009 09:31 PM

Kveton. Add ocho cinco.

darko 08-05-2009 09:31 PM

Kveton, Heikk is next...

The one issue is hockey sense and the other issue is whether or not he's a good teammate. The second issue might not amount to much--I mean we wondered when Avery became a Ranger with all the baggage with the Kings--yet he's fit in. It might be the same for Williams but he's another one of Slats reclamation projects.

I think he may have upset some players in the Colorado system, so they just wanted to dump him. He was more fired than traded.

NYR Viper 08-05-2009 11:22 PM

Heikkenen, add Zaba

nyr2k2 08-06-2009 11:19 AM

Heikkinen, add Zaborsky.

vipernsx 08-06-2009 12:29 PM

Hmm, most skilled player vs most likely to play in the NHL?

I guess I have to go with Heikkinen.

Add Gaulton
