Any Solid First Pairing D-Men Available?

The Devils are in need of a good 1st pairing defenseman. He doesn't have to be an elite #1. We just need a steady #2 guy that can log about 20 minutes a night.

My questions is, what D-men are available now or will possibly be available as the season goes on that the Devils can aquire?

struckbyaparkedcar 08-05-2009 03:29 PM

This thread screams Toni Lydman

Gert B Frobe 08-05-2009 03:30 PM

Randy Jones or Matt Carle

Darth Milbury 08-05-2009 03:32 PM

Randy Jones and Matt Carle are "solid first pairing d-men?"

HuskyFlames 08-05-2009 03:33 PM

Depends on what you mean by 1st pairing? Do you want a 2 way guy that can play the PP or a guy that can play on the 1st shutdown pairing? If so, I think Cory Sarich is available.

I gotta say I LOL'd when I read that as well.

Tomas Kaberle is apparently available, if you're willing to overpay (meaning Burke's asking price).

By all means:laugh:

I'd say Kaberle was available (barring a massive overpayment of course), but that's been beaten to death around here so I just won't go there for the sake of everyone's sanity.

I wouldn't call Sarich a first pairing D-man.

Brent Burns still asking for a trade out of Minnesota? If he does... let's trade the moon for him.

Jame 08-05-2009 03:38 PM

Henrik Tallinder or Toni Lydman. Played top pairing role/minutes through TWO Eastern Conference finals runs.

Defense first defensemen.
Tallinder is more of the mobile/positional defender
Lydman is more of the physical/Stay at home defender
Neither bring much offense

Philly85 08-05-2009 03:41 PM

Tom Gilbert or perhaps Sheldon Souray.

Sheldon was a 1b for the Oilers last season, although he's really much better in a complimentary capacity.

Tom Gilbert is a great, great young defenseman who logged big minutes at times last season, especially after Visnovsky went down. Offense/defence... he gives you whatever you like.

Both could be had for the right price, and although Souray is the better player right now I'd say Gilbert is much more lucrative IMO.

when did that happen?!

but how much do you want to pay and for how long? Kim Johnsson's contract is up next season...But if we want to be competitive at all this season we can't afford to lose him. hrmmm...

nm.

Ooo finally someone very intriguing. What would the Oilers want from the Devils for either Souray or Gilbert.

Zim 08-05-2009 03:46 PM

Well Campbell is most likely available, not sure the Devils would want him though.

Nah. Besides the lucrative contract, his D game isn't great either.

Paranoid Android 08-05-2009 03:47 PM

Dan Hamhuis may be available if the price is right

something like

Hamhuis + pick
for
top six winger

Maybe Bergfors if his stock rises enough?

I will keep Lydman. He was our best defender overall last year and is in a contract year this season. Lydman and Rivet will be our top 2 guys this season.

bigwillie 08-05-2009 03:55 PM

Ehrhoff and Vlasic probably could be had right about now.

TLinden16 08-05-2009 03:59 PM

Dan Hamhuis to NJ seems like a good fit.

Martin-Oduya
Hamhuis-White/Salvador Is a good Top 4.
