Gregory Stewart signed?

I just saw this on http://www.capgeek.com/, but I can't find it anywhere else.

It says 1-year, 500k. They also has his numbers in orange, which means it would be a 2-way contract.

What do you think? True or false?

bib 08-08-2009 04:45 AM

Interesting find. I haven't come across this anywhere else but better cap hit than I expected if true.

BLONG7 08-08-2009 06:25 AM

Makes sense, but no one is reporting it yet...

TheCH* 08-08-2009 06:29 AM

Well if he was signed, that would be the contract he would get.

HabsGuy19 08-08-2009 07:02 AM

Interesting...you think that we'd here about the signing well before someone heard about the contract price. If this is true than that would be great, I'm a big fan of Stewart and 500k is a pretty good price.

exactly...if true, if was probably the easiest contract to give for Gainey.

Mue 08-08-2009 07:48 AM

Capgeek has been bang on all summer.

ti-vite 08-08-2009 07:50 AM

Didnt see it on the front page of lapresse:dunno:

Vasculio 08-08-2009 07:57 AM

I don't like these 1 year contracts... cause I really like Stewart, and think he can still get a bit better. Anyway, hope it's true, and that D'Agostini will soon follow...

Yeah, if it's there, I'd say it's a done deal.

$500k and 2-way is a fair deal. Stewart will fight for his spot in training camp.

If it's true, what's not to like about $500,000 for one year? We will still own Stewart's rights next year.

Artyukhin* 08-08-2009 08:03 AM

Stewart wanted to wait until Crosby brought the cup back to Cole Hbr , he didnt want the contact to take any spot light away from Sidney.

SpezNc 08-08-2009 08:12 AM

how do we know if a player has a two-way deal or a one-way deal?

Patty Roy 08-08-2009 08:30 AM

I would have thought that Stewart & D'Agostini would be two of the easiest contracts to get done...nice to see at least one of them done finally.

IMO in the cap age you really need these types of contracts. Stewart should be a pretty serviceable player for us this season along with providing some much needed grit.

Marc the Habs Fan 08-08-2009 08:45 AM

I would say this 99.9% official as capgeek has been on the mark all summer. Just need the Habs to confirm.

500 K is the minimum salary, so it makes total sense. It puts us at 55.689 M with Chipchura also on the roster.

I think that's why...neither Stewart or D'Agostini have any leverage. No big deal, Gainey had/has bigger fish to fry right now

LyleOdelein 08-08-2009 09:01 AM

If this is true, it's great news. I really like what Stewart can bring to this team if Laraque is injured.

Watsatheo 08-08-2009 10:38 AM

I think it's pretty reliable. The guy who runs it seems to have good sources.

saskhab 08-08-2009 12:24 PM

Stewart probably wanted a one way deal like Chipchura, but Gainey didn't budge. That's probably why it took this long.

Habsfan18 08-08-2009 12:25 PM

Anyone think he'd be picked up if we tried to send him down? I could see Burke being interested in him.

Yes. There are always injuries in pre-season and there will always be GMs willing to take a young grinder who can skate and fight...especially at the league minimun salary and without having to give up any assets.

Class act all the way. :handclap:

There's still nothing on any major hockey site..

Marc the Habs Fan 08-08-2009 02:11 PM

Capgeek gets his info from Irish Blues, who has a contact within the NHL for contracts. It's very possible this deal is signed and sent to the league, the Habs are just waiting to announce it.

Hawkguy 08-08-2009 02:15 PM

humm.

$500K is the minimum - so it doesn't make complete sense to me unless it's a 1-way. Otherwise, you'd think he'd get a $550K or $600K or something.
