Has anyone ever used this particular face shield?

just wondering if anyone has used this face shield...right now i used a full cage but have been wanting to change over for a while...has anyone used this particular face shield? is it worth the extra money over a standard face shield?

I have never used it, but I personally think it's a pretty frigging stupid looking piece of equipment.

Inferno 08-16-2009 03:32 AM

well, im not really concerned about what it looks like, im more concerned about the functionality...

Bammers 08-16-2009 03:51 AM

I have the X100 visor, which is the visor portion of that faceshield. I haven't had any issues with the visor, but don't have any experience with the mask itself. Hope that sort of helps...

A guy who never used a face shield had switched to this exact face shield you posted and liked the proitection but he said he had to get used to wearing one.

He had an issue with fogging a bit too but the thing is enclosed and all and should be expected a little bit at least.

This was also at shinny hockey and he was not a very good player and had little experieince with face shields so take that for whatever that would mean.

It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen

I use an older version of that combo. The version I have has the exact same 1/2 shield but the bottom portion is wire cage vs. plastic. I am happy with it. I like that I can get replacement shields vs. having to replace the whole thing if a visor cracks or gets too scratched over time. It does fog sometimes, especially if I play in the summer but after skating for 5 - 10 seconds it lears right up.

The fogging is what would concern me. Wouldn't the visor stay fogged on the bench? With a regular half shield you can just grab a towel on the bench and wipe it. To wipe this shield I'd think you need to unfasten and lift the shield to get access to it.

I like the idea of the cage below for added protection (though I still wear a full cage myself).

Yeah, pretty much. If you want to wipe it you un-fasten, lift, wipe and re-fasten. really not that big of a deal. If you can tolerate the fogging on the bench it does clear up after about five seconds of skating. Another thing I noticed is that it doesn't fog much when new. It seems that as the "factory installed" anti-fog coating wears off over time, the fogging picks up. That's where the replacement shields com in handy.

Just do what Dany Heatley did and take the plastic from a sneeze guard and wrap that around your head.

I tried shields a couple times but they always fogged up so bad I couldn't see out of them at all. My teammates never have an issue with them though. You could try it, but make sure you can return it if need be.

Personally I went from an Oakley shield I found on clearance (fogged up too much) to an 8000 cage (worked great but rusted after a year) to an Itech Concept II (only used twice as it fogged up way too much and blocked air flow) to a 9500 cage (outstanding, super light, super thin bars, can't even tell it's on).

That's the visor I'm rocking right now, the only problem is that when I talk my voice echos off it because it covers part of my mouth.
