Rangers Prospect #31
Tomas Zaborsky won a spot in the top 30. This year is his last chance to prove himself at the AHL level. If he's anything short of a second liner in Hartford, he's off the list by All-Star break. Devin DiDiomete got himself onto the voting list.

We are going to 35, and the remaining 5 who'll be on the list, but not in the top 35 will be our honorable mentions.

CHANGES: Instead of having first tier for the top 10; second tier for 11-25; and projects & suspects for all else, I changed the names.

1-10: Top prospects
11-20: Second Tier
21-30: Projects
31-35: Suspects
36-40: Honorable Mentions (not ranked, just players leftover from the voting)
41+: Rangers property (obviously unranked).

By the time we get to the All Star break, we'll cut the list from 35+5 to 25+5, unless Slats acquires several prospects in the meanwhile.

But it's good to have think ranking done now so that we'll know who to watch and what to expect from them during the pre-season.

Voted for Justin Soryal. Wikipedia is next.

People voting for Pashnin should be careful: the first overall pick in the KHL is almost like a waiver draft here in the US. Each team gets to protect a certain number of prospects that came up through their own system (in Russia, junior teams are tied to pro teams).

Pashnin is really just "best of the rest".

Pashnin, really getting into 1 in 100 shots here

Definitely don't think it's 1 in 100. Soryal is a goon with a reasonable chance to make the Rangers. He can fight and has decent skill for a goon. Could be a useful player.

Hmm, that was tough. Coming in, I was leaning towards Dowzak. His size is intriguing. However, I worry about whether or not the kid can keep up at higher levels, and it bothers me that he hasn't displayed much of a mean streak. He's like Marek Malik lite--you'll always want him to crush some guys, but he just won't.

So instead I went with Wiikman. He still looks like a solid NHL backup to me. He has plenty of talent, is quick, and still relatively young.

EDIT: Add Paul Crowder.

Went witht he player who I think will make the NHL, Soryal

Jxmarts 08-17-2009 10:52 PM

It's too bad Soryal hurt his hand & missed a good portion of the season in Hartford last season. He reminds me of Darren Langdon in that he's not necessarily imposing, but he's got the smarts to take on most heavyweights. I'd rather have seen him play a full season at Hartford & up his game a notch so that the Rangers did not have to sign a 37 year-old Brashear. If Colton Orr can be an NHLer, Soryal shouldn't be too far behind.

Add Crowder. who the heck is left anyways?

I vote to add David Skokan.

After him, for me, the next 3 are: Paul Crowder, Daniel Maggio, David Urquhart.
