Blue Jackets and Indians form a marketing alliance

And so it begins. I could totally see this as a start to something much bigger (STO possibly?)

This is fantastic news. There are alot of hockey fans in Northeastern Ohio who have never had any CBJ exposure, and thus have continuted to follow Detroit/Pittsburgh/Buffalo.

You have no idea how badly I love to see the Jackets on STO.

Will the Cavs also partner with the Jackets? Will the Jackets switch their AHL affiliation to the Monsters in the future to complete the Cleveland-Columbus connection?

Interesting possibilities.

What about Cincinnati?

Based on the myriad of connections Columbus has with Cleveland, i'd bet that the official management stance on anything Cincinnati is "**** Off"

Please put the CBJ on STO.

I don't know. The Reds have interviewed Howson during a game, and have mentioned the Jackets a few times.

I know they are very active in their Kentucky market. They advised the Clippers that they were not interested in moving their farm team out of Louisville.

Maybe they feel that folks in Cincinnati will gravitate to the Jackets more based on them being the obvious closest team.

As I said in the other thread, Sportstime Ohio and the Jackets would be a perfect marriage.
The Jackets would be treated like royalty, none of the fans would be ****ed over, and they would put all 82 games in HD.

They would hire their own announcers too.:naughty:

More importantly they do everything in HD.

If they would do all 82, in HD, they could do them in silence.

Skraut 08-18-2009 04:54 PM

The great thing about games in HD, is that the audio is broadcast in 5.1 with the announcers on the center channel.

Unplug your center speaker, and it sounds like you're at the game.

I really think this is a great marketing move for the Jackets. Cleveland has some budding hockey fans but I'm sure there's a way to market it more effectively in a basketball market. Having STO do the CBJ games would be awesome. Especially if they could do a few episodes of All Bets Are Off before the games where Bruce Drennan could interview alot of the players and stuff like that.

I can't speak to the rest of your post but I have a feeling the first sentence has more to do with the former connection to Jim Day more than any potential partnership between the two.

That said, I would love love LOVE for the Jackets to leave FSN for STO.

Can I have a link to the press release on this? Thank you.

Also, Howson is a big fan of the Reds, since childhood. I read that. http://www.bluejacketsxtra.com/live/...V.html?sid=101

That's assuming of course your house has an HD TV and a surround sound system. ;)

So let me ask THIS question then...
Why not form an alliance with the Reds and the Buckeyes?
The size and "geographic significance" of their fanbases are no small potatos either.
Or is this just about STO cable tv?

Fair questions/points.

Although Cincinnati, much like Cleveland, doesn't really care about the Jackets, the chances of this change happening when STO isn't televised in Dayton and Cincinnati are slim.

CBJ lost 10 million dollars last season
Indians are on pace to lose 18 million dollars this season.

This is great news, previously the Jackets have failed in marketing themselves as Ohio's team (adding the Ohio Flag to the logo doesnt help that much). CBJ failed to see the Cleveland AHL market with the Monsters and missed a great opportunity to affiliate in Cleveland, next chance is in a few years when the current affiliations can be renewed, changed, etc... Since the Blue Jackets there's been a boom in high school hockey and Ohio also has jr, college, and minor pro teams. Hockey fans in NE Ohio have generally been fans of PIT and in the NW DET. taping into these markets is key for CBJ. Cincy is a great sports city and has a great ECHL team and a slowly growing hockey fanbase...

It'd be nice for Columbus to bring their minor league affiliates to Ohio cities!
