Ranking the NW division goalies..

Canucks fan here! Just stopped by to congratulate you guys, apparently you have two of the top 3 goalies in the NW division ;) And the 2nd one isn't Luongo... Haha.

Anyways, I'll lose the sarcasm, but what kinda junk is this? Backstrom should obviously be on that list as #2, with Luongo in #1. I have no idea why Harding is on there?

Anyways.. It's from a Minny paper so I thought I'd post it for ya guys.. This guy is a HARSH homer tho haha..

In some ways you can defend Backstrom being the best in the NW due to his play
It will be interesting though with Minny's new system
Harding is just a joke being ahead of Luongo

There is an argument for Backstrom yes, he's very good. But, I don't think that argument will last long with Luongo in the mix.

Backstroms stats are "padded" to an extent as he's playing for a very defensive team. If you look past stats Luongo is a better overall goalie (yet, he has pretty good stats too ).

That link isn't working for me, but I don't know how much I'm missing by not being able to read an article that ranks Harding ahead of Luongo. Like you guys say, that's just not to be taken seriously, and like you I'd like to see how Backstrom plays in a more wide open system before i can take him over Luongo.

Don't get me wrong; I think he's a good goalie, but he doesn't seem to do well when he has to move side to side. That's something he's rarely had to do under Lemaire, so we haven't been able to get a good read on him thus far, but I think there's a good chance he'll be exposed this season as a purely positional goaltender. we should know in a few months; meanwhile, thanks for the info! This is the first I've heard of this article.

If Harding is above Luongo, I refuse to read the article

Kipper, Harding & Backstrom are ALL ahead of Luongo according to Joseph Gunther.

I think Harding has loads of potential. Luongo is VERY overrrated. It's about time someone recognized that. :handclap:

To me, Luongo ranks up there with lundqvist. They are great goalies, but I'm less than impressed with them during the playoffs. Then again, the same can still be said with Backstrom as well. Harding has a lot of potential but he isn't going to get it here because there just isn't any reason that Backstrom's playing time should be cut down in order for him to gain the time he needs. Sadly, I hope they move him before the deadline this year for something....possibly even draft picks if possible.

So while Roberto is a little overrated in my book as well, its still kind of a slap in the face for a goalie who is averaging just around the same GAA and Save % as the rest...if not a little better.

Steve Yzerman, a relatively unknown hockey persona, announced today that Harding will be playing for Canada in the Olympics over Luongo.

Are you for real?

Luongo is EASILY, the undisputed best goaltender in the NW division.. I'm laughing at how dumb that article is.

I'm sorry, but this guy is seriously out to lunch. I am from Edmonton (obviously) and we thought we had some hacks writing out here.....

Here's a link: http://www.examiner.com/x-3853-Minne...al-goaltenders

I saw "Write for us" near the top of the page and stopped right there. This is just some Wild fan who probably got run out of the Russo's Rants blog comment section for being an idiot and found a place that will take whatever it can get.

Seriously? Kipper?! The guy has been in decline mode for five years. Wasn't he like 28th out of the 30 starters last year in combined stats of relevance?

I would like to see backstrom/luongo playing under playfair's and keenans defensive systems..Not too mention he has been vastly overplayed every year. He showed what he can do under one of the best defensive squads in 04'. We will see what stats he puts up this season before announcing he is declining. From a flames fan perspective if he struggles this year like the past few years we could be in big trouble.
