Per Eklunds and Dregger's twitter and Eklund's blog.

OH NOES!

EDIT: I wonder the severity of the injury and if we should be concerned.

UPDATE: 1:30 PM John Boruk via twitter

CSNFlyer - Just confirmed that Simon Gagne tweaked his groin and sat out the first day of Canada's orientation camp. Not sure how serious
I don't like groin tweaks, it could linger. The groin to a hockey player is like tweaking a your hamstring for other sports.

hope its not a concussion!

For ****s Sake,,,, Mother ****er !!!!

IrishSniper87 08-25-2009 01:23 PM

I'm searching for more info.

It doesn't SOUND serious, but with the NHL, they never get too specific. Not expected to return could mean he is ok or it could mean he is out for an extended period of time pending an MRI.

GKJ 08-25-2009 01:23 PM

D'oh

Here's the other thing also, and the NHLPA brought this up and suggested that everyone decline Olympic Camp invitations. They're uninsured because this is a non-NHL deal.

I hope not, that would open a whole host of Heatley rumors I'd rather not deal with.

Hopefully knee sprain or something that he just needs to be out for 1 week. maybe it is something personal and he had to leave ??

IrishSniper87 08-25-2009 01:25 PM

Can a mod remove the word "UPDATE:" from the title, I accidentally left that in after choosing the "Injury Report" prefix. Thanks in advance.

An injury indicating he will not return sounds a little more serious then something personal. Darren Dredger would be more specific if it was personal, I think he would at least.

There was a news announcement recently that Team Canada is insuring the players attending the camp. Before that, I read an interview with one player, I believe Regehr, where he said the insurance didn't cover everything and that he was taking out some insurance on his own, too, but that was before the last round of updates about Team Canada covering the players so I assume that became a moot point.

IrishSniper87 08-25-2009 01:30 PM

Updated first point, John Boruk says it's a groin tweak

I am reading the live blogs on CTV, and it seems he got hurt yesterday ???? The one CTV guys mentioned that he appeared to be walking fine when he saw him last night >?????

A tweaked groin is still most likely less games missed than a concussion. They've dodged a bullet.

Sawdalite 08-25-2009 01:37 PM

Just a guess, but I would think/hope that after a groin tweak, Gagne would shut it down a while to make sure it doesn't become a lingering problem with the Flyers this season... Better to forgo the Olympics than risk a season long groin problem, as they often can become.

Just a thought though... totally nothing to base it on besides common sense, and wishful thinking.

CanadianFlyer88 08-25-2009 01:38 PM

Hopefully it's just a precaution. The point of the camp is to develop chemisty or reconnect with players you might not otherwise play with, so maybe he'll just stick in out with Getzlaf in the pressbox and still hang out with the guys after the on-ice sessions.

Cam Ward was kept off the ice yesterday, as well, I believe.

Depends. A bad groin tweak can have a player like Gagne under performing and in and out of the lineup for months and months. Not good.

Juicy Couturier* 08-25-2009 01:45 PM

Maybe he had sex with Danny boy?

Whats that? Groin injuries arent contagious?

Seriously though. A groin tweak is not a groin pull. Its very common for a player early in the season to tweak a groin while it isnt used to the stress of hard skating. Lets all calm down for now.

Terence Peterman 08-25-2009 02:09 PM

Well, at least he's not on my fantasy team.

Oh, wait. Yes he is.

Get well soon, Gags.

I played 3 months of hockey through a pulled groin. It sucks, but you can play through it. And like you said, it's only a tweak. I think worse case scenario is he sits out a bit, but I'd be surprised if he misses any NHL games. And I base that off the very little information we have.

Forward Simon Gagne left the camp due to a groin injury.

"Yeah I spoke to him this morning. He was disappointed but at the same time he wants to be ready for the start of the season and doesn't want to have lingering problems," said Flyers teammate Mike Richards.

When contacted about Gagne, the Flyers said that that the injury is not considered serious.

well if it is a bad groin tweak, then yea, he will be in and out of the lineup (see: Briere, Danny). if it's a little tweak, he may be able to play through it (as others have pointed out), but my problem with that is that when you've got something wrong and you've got it in your head that you're not 100%, that's when injuries like concussions happen, and that wouldn't be good for simon.

DeadPhish5858 08-25-2009 02:36 PM

We should have expected this. He was good all last year.
