DirecTV drops Versus (UPD: back on the air 3/15)

This means people with DirecTV won't be able to watch the first game of the season on Oct. 1?

Follow it in the BOH forum. (It's been on the radar for more than a week.)

Could just be a bargaining ploy.

But if you're a DTV customer, call and say you want Versus. (And as it won't be on Center Ice, you'll be SOL without Versus as a DTV customer for the Sharks opening night game.)

allworldcaucasn* 08-26-2009 02:07 PM

Thanks.

TheGooooch 08-26-2009 02:07 PM

ouch, if that doesn't get resolved than that is very bad

jgood 08-26-2009 02:13 PM

Has the Sharks season opener been CONFIRMED to be a Versus EXCLUSIVE? (Has it even been confirmed to be on Versus at all?) As I recall, CSN-BA has not released its schedule yet and will not until we get much closer to the season. Just wondering if your statement re: SOL is premature.

As far as I know, every game Versus carries is "national exclusive" which means it's on Versus and Versus only.

As far as I know, that's not always the case.

LadyStanley 08-26-2009 03:17 PM

The only time Versus games are not exclusive is the first two rounds of the playoffs.

SharksAddict 08-26-2009 03:18 PM

I will be pissed if this ends up staying the way it is.

Versus will give in. They are barely above Public Access Stations in the TV pecking order.

ToursLepantoVienna 08-26-2009 08:47 PM

The thread title is misleading. The contract expires Aug. 31.

Regardless, this dispute will be resolved long before the NHL season starts. Don't be alarmed by the posturing in the meantime.

Nighthock 08-26-2009 09:53 PM

I don't get Versus anyway ... it's on the most expensive package for Dish Network. You go to Hell, NHL ... You go to Hell and you die.

Seriously, its so high on the channels that I forget about it most of the time.

Bizz06 08-27-2009 03:37 AM

Didn't Comcast try to pull this stunt months ago?

Seriously, Comcast should be banned from operating Sports Networks.

LadyStanley 09-01-2009 10:46 AM

Hello? Is anybody there? Does anybody care? :sarcasm:

Puck Daddy on the situation; Versus is currently off the air on DTV.

Call DTV to comment/complain.

Bizz06 09-01-2009 11:00 AM

Whats to complain about? Comca$t are being a bunch of greedy little ***** and DirecTV, a company that has put the customer first ever since I can remember, is getting the shaft from them. I hope it never gets resolved the the channel fades into obscurity while the NHL gets smart and gets back on ESPN where it belongs.

I appreciate the extra time Versus has put into the NHL product, but they haven't delivered it to the normal sports package on Dish... which means I don't get it since I'm not paying an extra $12/month for Versus... which means I want the NHL to go back to ESPN :P

Led Zappa 09-01-2009 11:51 AM

I have had Comcast since Versus launched. Now I am moving and will have DTV. This sucks. They better get this ironed out. At least I'll have CI in HD :)

Don't blame Versus for its placement on Dish. That's all on Dish Network, that's where your complaint should go.

Comcast isn't withholding Versus from Dish on this issue because there aren't enough Dish subs to make it worthwhile. DirecTV has more subs, and especially more subs who are into sports, so there is a little more sense (I guess, I'm not a fan of the games sat providers play with placement of networks, nor am I fan of networks shutting off their signal at the expense of fans to get what they want [money]) in playing hardball with them.

sjshark91 09-01-2009 08:23 PM

So did this go through or do Direct TV subscribers have Versus?
