Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired defencemen Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenceman Daniel Rahimi and forward Patrick White.

“We are pleased to be adding Christian and Brad to our defensive group,” said Mike Gillis. “Defence has been an area we wanted to add skill and depth to and this trade has strengthened our group considerably. We would like to thank both Daniel and Patrick for their commitment and efforts with our organization and we wish them both well in their careers.”

Ehrhoff, 27, recorded eight goals, 34 assists (8-34-42) and 63 penalty minutes in 77 games with the Sharks last season. Ehrhoff made his NHL debut in 2003-04 and has played 341 career regular season games, all with the Sharks, recording 132 points (25-107-132) and 244 penalty minutes. In 38 NHL Playoff games he has added 15 points (2-13-15) and 40 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-2, 205 lbs. native of Moers, Germany, was drafted by San Jose in the 4th round, 106th overall in 2001.

Lukowich, 33, played 58 games with the Sharks last season recording eight points, 12 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +5. The Cranbrook, BC, native has played for five NHL teams over 11 seasons with Dallas, Tampa Bay, NY Islanders, New Jersey and San Jose. The 6-foot-1, 201 lbs. defenceman has played 640 regular season games, recording 111 points (22-89-111), 365 penalty minutes and is a career +38. He was originally drafted in the 4th round, 90th overall by the New York Islanders in 1994.

Daniel Rahimi was selected by the Canucks in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft while Patrick White was selected by Vancouver in 2007.

If this is true, then I don't know what to say.

Lukowich and Ehrhoff are solid top 4 defencemen, and Rahimi and White are both underachieving prospects.

jax00 08-28-2009 01:06 PM

Great deal for the Nucks.

Bobby Lou 08-28-2009 01:07 PM

Mike Gillis continues to pwn everyone.

 San Jose just got fleeced. Wow.

Hahahahahahaahahahahaha ... What?

I mean Lukowich and Ehrhoff are alright/decent, nothing great... But White is worthless and Rahimi is kind of worthless.

SJ got owned. Hard.

I get the impression than Lukowich was a salary dump and Rahimi was a throw in, with the main pieces being a former 1st round prospect (White) for Erhoff.

In SJ's minds, they must have believed this was the equivalent of Erhoff for a 1st rounder. How wrong they were :sarcasm:

jax00 08-28-2009 01:08 PM

Lukowich is not a top 4 defenseman.

But but... Patrick White coulda been a contender! :sarcasm:

Wooo, I'm pumped about this trade, SJ must have had cap problems or else I just don't see how they justified this trade.

topheavyhookjaw 08-28-2009 01:09 PM

This. Must. Be. Fake.

Too. Good. To. Be. True.

Hopefully this means no Schneider as we go;

Salo-Mitchell
Bieksa-Edler
Erhoff-O'Brien
Lukowich
Rome
Nycholat.

There goes our capspace too, but a huge upgrade on the backend for two underachieving prospects.

Zorbane 08-28-2009 01:10 PM

What the hell this is a rip off

pitseleh 08-28-2009 01:10 PM

Holy ****

Mike Gillis is a god amongst men.

GoTeamDom 08-28-2009 01:11 PM

This trade doesn't make much sense from the Sharks POV unless they plan on taking on more salary, or something else is going the other way.

Edler Salo
Mitchell Bieksa
O'Brien Ehrhoff
Lukowich

Finally 7 NHL defensemen...

Hedberg 08-28-2009 01:11 PM

I'm so excited we never have to hear about how White again! At least he got us Ehrhoff (which is way more than anyone expected)

But what happens with Schneider now?

Yeah, this is really laughable.

sunb 08-28-2009 01:12 PM

Patrick White is the worst Canucks 1st rounder I have ever seen play. Even worse than Nathan Smith. He has no NHL-calibre skills and is barely able to play a noticable role on a NCAA team. I used to like him a lot and was very excited to watch him play when I went to see two MN Gophers games. He disappointed me in both - I should rather say, I was disappointed in that he played barely a few minutes in either game as the coach had him in a 4th line role.

I would've been thrilled to have even received a 3rd rounder for White as his value is that of a 5th. San Jose is definitely clearing cap space for a roster move. There is no rational reason they literally just threw away Erhoff and Lukowich for two career minor leaguers.

Does this mean Schneider isn't coming?

Is this all going to fit under the cap?

DanyHeatleyfnAllstar 08-28-2009 01:12 PM

LOL

Is this for real?

Every time I read Patrick White's name, I hear Ray Ferraro doing his rant on Patrick Stefan only replace his name with Patrick White...

"Patrick White! You ought to be disgusted with yourself...!"

pitseleh 08-28-2009 01:12 PM

I can't believe that White returned anything of value. Oh my god I'm in shock.

vancityluongo 08-28-2009 01:13 PM

WTF. You're kidding me.

I still remember a post from a Sharks fan saying Ehrhoff would get Hodgson.

I remember a thread a while back in which we heard Hansen couldn't get Erhoff....

Seriously, we just added another 40pt defenseman and a veteran #7 for a defenseman who wasn't even top 4 on the Moose, and a first rounder whom many think won't play in the league ever. :yo:

Slats432 08-28-2009 01:13 PM

Nice deal by Gillis. You guys win....big.

anguscertified 08-28-2009 01:13 PM

The young top 4 dman and the vet, just as I said. WOWWWW
